Summary
When her sister, Pippa, goes missing, Nella Freling tells her boss she’s taking time off from her job as a research librarian, hops in her sensible van, and heads south of the border to Montana. However, local police don’t seem too concerned about a missing woman living in her motorhome. So Nella will have to look for Pippa by herself, unless she can convince a highly recommended tracker to help her, but sadly the rude and angry cowboy won’t even listen to her at first.
But Nella can be persuasive.
The first time High Mountain Tracker, Fletch Boone, laid eyes on Nella, her ass was stuck in his grocery cart. The next time was at the ranch; she was wearing mud, head to toe. But when he catches sight of her a third time, hanging off a cliff, he can’t turn his back again. What Nella lacks in survival skills she makes up for in sheer determination. Unfortunately, neither of those is enough protection when bullets start flying.
Fletch has no choice but to jump in before the woman gets herself killed.
And that would be a damn shame.

Great book
This was an amazing story. The characters are becoming like friends with me now. I can’t wait to read all their stories now.

Good story - production needs editing
The story was intriguing and enjoyable. There was mystery, suspense, romance all in one. I liked the cowboy story without the emphasis of calling him a cowboy every two seconds.
The narrators, Connor Crais and Deseriee Ketchum did a great job, but the editors need to go back and fix some things. There were all a lot of repeated lines and too long pauses between some chapters.

Entertaining romantic suspense.
I really enjoyed this listen. The setting and the plot where both filked with incident and great characters. Both Nella and Fletcher had their spikey sides and the mature characters which added to their interest. The scenes in the woods were so good, so well described and the slow burn romance, just lovely. Both Desiree Ketchum and Conor Crais were excellent . their voices matched the characters so well and their narration was first class. Loved it! 💖 💖💖💖💖

A great Adventure
Freya Barker has written an incredible story with High Stakes, and I am loving how this series is playing out.
This is book 2 and Fletch is in the spotlight,I actually enjoyed this story better than book 1.
I Love Fletch and Nella, they are opposites and a mismatch but once they get to know one another they just work.
Fletch is a loner and doesn't socialise much except for his family on the ranch and his tracking brothers.
Nella is a whirlwind she comes crashing into his life asking for help with the search of her missing sister. She's smart, stubborn and determined and causes Fletch to have all sorts of reactions that he didn't expect.
I Love Freya Barkers characters they are always so real the descriptions of them read out like they could be me or you even down to the grey streaks in their hair.I Love how authentic they are so they are easy to relate to.
Now I listened to the Audiobook of this story and let me tell you it was brilliant
Connor Crais and Desiree Ketchum are exquisite in their narration I cannot praise them enough.
I love their voices so smooth and effortless, their talent is amazing, and they were the ideal Fletch and Nella.
High Stakes is a steamy, romantic suspense that will keep you guessing until the end and I enjoyed every minute of it.
Fanatastic.
5 Stars.

A great story
I really enjoyed this book and looking forward to listening to the rest of the books in this series. I enjoy the mix of romance and action with slightly older characters. The narrators were excellent too.

Couldn't Bear It
Connor Crais is now my favourite Audible narrator since Christian Fox left. His marvelous voice and tone are a balm. Ms Ketchum is OK, but her character is in this story is so pathetically stupid, it was hard for the narrator to read her seriously. Drops her bear spray then rushes into the undergowth to look for her missing sister despite her recent close encounter with a hungry bear, leaving the poor male to have to follow her. She falls off a cliff, sadly didn't die as the tale circles to more and more pathetic scenarios. Silly quips about dropping her PB&J, silly quips about her messy hair, embarressment about needing to pee you'd think she was 12 not 42. She consistently fails to listen to advice from her rescuers. Clearly this author has never been in any such real situation.
I've been an action woman my whole life, mountain climbling, riding thoroughbreds, desert safaris, skiing, hiking in the Picos D'Europa, swimming with sharks and have never once needed to be rescued! The male reaction to her is just creepy and toe curling.
The story is so awful I stopped with 5 hrs to go; there was no way any of the tale was credible or logical.
AWFUL
