Summary

A collection of eight tales ranging from horror to superhero, science fiction to postapocalyptic, that examine the darker aspects of the world.

"Bread and Circuses": This weary warrior has been fighting battles for a very long time.

"Dental Plan": Robert's teeth are falling out left and right, sometimes only minutes apart. What is happening to him?

"Footprints in the Butter": When the creatures showed up, it was only the beginning of Paul's waking nightmare.

"Last Year's Hero": Battledriver Linnea is the best of the best, but now is she too old to come back for one more season?

"Pedals": Once the gasoline ran out, the only way for the wasteland wanderers to get around was on bicycles.

"Tracks": Being a hacker isn't so glamorous.

"Boy Scout": When the most powerful superhero has had enough, what chance does the world stand?

"1001001": All sentients seek something greater than themselves, even robots.

Eight times the fantasy

Well this was certainly unusual. There is eight slightly weird and wonderful mini stories in this collection, that are All totally different from each other. Some will have you wondering what just happened? some what was the point? Some well okay then and even a well that was creepy but all will keep you listening until the end. It is very hard to write a story that lasts at the most thirty seven minutes that captures an audience's imagination but weaves enough information to also keep them listening . Somehow Ian Thomas Healy manages to do just that, it could be because he has a good imagination and is writing about something he loves, which comes across in his work. Normally I would tell you a bit about each story but to be honest if I do that then I would be probably giving away spoilers, so if you like sy-fi, horror, mystical creatures or just something different then give this book ago.
I liked the narrator. He does a good job at representing each story and the many different situations involved in this collection.
