Summary
But things don't go as planned. Plagued by a heroin habit, forced to go on the run after the only credible witness to Victoria's murder is accidentally killed, wanted by both the Colorado cops and the Ulster police, Alex struggles just to stay alive.
Gritty, with spot-on dialogue and black humor, Hidden River is a dynamic thriller.

Didn’t do it for me.
This is my second book by this author. I loved the first. This one, not so much. The quality of the writing, and the narration are excellent. The characters are richly drawn. However, several chapters in, I find the story just doesn’t interest me and I will return it.

If you’re irish/northern irish - this is the wrong narrator for a great story
I wish I had read this, not listened. Mr. Doyle’s Northern Irish accent will haunt me for many a long day to come. I’m sure he executes narration in an English or southern Irish accent beautifully, but this northern irish effort? Ouch. I sped up 1.25x and it made it somewhat better.
I love Adrian Mckinty’s books and have read everything else of his, but I wish his audio books were narrated appropriately- it really took from the story.

A tragic tale
I loved the twists and turns of the plot and the narrator did the book justice.

Gripping in parts
This was a good tale, but it was a little over wordy. Too much “look at how smart I am” from the author.
The performance was patchy - some accents utterly awful.
I finished it on double speed - I was a little bored by the end - but wanted to see the killer unmasked, that was a disappointment too.

A dark and twisted tale
It can take a while to sink into this book, to go with the flow of words, emotions and foolish decisions, but it's worth it. A difficult listen perhaps and yet it's a story of redemption. I loved it.
