Summary
Never look back. Alex Verus is a diviner who can see probable futures - a talent that's gotten him and his friends out of many a tough scrape. But what happens when someone doesn't want Alex's help?
Alex's friend, the life mage Anne, distanced herself from him when she found out about his past as a Dark apprentice. Now she's in serious trouble but wants nothing to do with him. Alex has to start wondering if Anne's problem is really with him - or if there's a secret she's trying to hide. On top of that, rumours are swirling around London that Alex's former master may be back in town. Alex has no idea what his agenda may be or who it involves....

Series starts off as good and ends up great.
I've done a couple of reviews for books in this series recently and have said nearly everything there is to say without giving away spoilers. The plot was great, the narration keeps improving and I was pulled in from start to finish. Despite the fact that the main hero is male, there are several really strong and varied females in the cast, which makes this an equally good listen regardless if you are male or female. This review is really just to confirm that it keeps getting better and there isn't a weak or filler book in it so far. I ended up listening to the books back to back, despite the fact that I've other purchases I should be listening to first. The next book is due in August and I will definitely be pre-ordering this if it come to Audible UK.
You do need to listen in order as while each book has it's own story there are new characters introduced and an overarching plot. Since Audible now has the lot but hasn't series linked them yet, this is: Fated, Cursed, Taken, Chosen and Hidden.

Chapter Nine
If you’ve got to this book, you are both addicted and excited by Alex’s development. When you get to chapter 9, learn even more about him. And this is where you decide how much you actually like him...
Lots are covered in this book (lots of fun in jokes - Babylon 5 and The Pink Panther)! This is a deep story and I must say that I did get tired of Ann. However, these stories are getting better with each episode. Worth pressing through on...

When hints become facts
What did you like most about Hidden?
Quite a few facts about characters that have been only hinted at in previous novels get an explanation. And the explanations are as riveting as the action scenes!
What did you like best about this story?
Although the story is globally very well thought out, it's the small details that flesh it out that I like the most.
Which scene did you most enjoy?
A certain allusion to the Babylon 5 universe... Funny as hell!
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
As always, the story builds up in a way that enables the reader to empathize more and more with the characters.
Any additional comments?
The whole series has become 'mature'. The characters are well rounded and very human (i.e. flawed), except maybe for a certain reddish animal.

I love the blink fox
best story in the series so far, the blink fox character is brilliant. I also loved how the friendships reconnect

nice story, more complex than Jim Butcher though not as good as Ben Aronovitch
the reader! he is terrible. he basically only has one voice but still tries to pretend he can do several. if he just read straight out this would actually be an improvement

Will not continue with this series
This series started on a very strong note and despite the similarities with the Dresden files the MC and general tone of this series was different enough to make me love it as a distinct and unique series. However, after 5 books I am exhausted and feel like the author has been dragging things out for too long. Revelations which are pretty obvious from the first book are revealed slowly across 3 or 4 books, and obvious plot trajectories have taken 5 books to even get started (and not even really started, just confirmed to start soon). The author also seems to have missed one very important aspect of a fantasy series - the MC must also grow as a mage. While we see some personal emotional and social growth, the MC over the course of 5 books has not grown or developed magically at ALL. And the nature of his power is so specific that he is both insanely weak and extremely hyper powered - it’s the author alone who gets to decide in any given conflict whether he’ll be one step ahead or struggling to survive and that has been consistent across all 5 books. There appears to be zero room for magical growth and as a fantasy lover I don’t think I have ever come across an MC so magically stagnant. After 5 books I can no longer stick around in the hope that this will change

And on to the next one
I just live these books. The action goes right through to the last chapter. I would love to have a ‘blink fox’ in my garden

great original story true to form
this is a five star review, I have read all the others before and instead of falling flat or going stale it's a great story right on point.

My favourite of the series !
I absolutely loved this book ! for me, the other 4 had been building the story and this gave some of the answers you have wondered; about Richard and Alex's background. I don't want to give any spoilers so I wont say much more, but it felt like a Chapter in Alex life was coming to an end - but another door is opening and we have a long way to go, more of Alex,.... and his friends ! - don't want to say too much much about who and spoil it ! I hope in the next one we learn a bit more about Arexxia and Luna, *not sure of the spelling of Spiders name* Love this series !! All of the books are great, what are you waiting for, get listening !
