About this listen

Francis Joseph Cassavant is eighteen. He has just returned home from the Second World War, and he has no face. He does have a gun and a mission: to murder his childhood hero.

Francis lost most of his face when he fell on a grenade in France. He received the Silver Star for bravery, but was it really an act of heroism? Now, having survived, he is looking for a man he once admired and respected, a man adored by many people, a man who also received a Silver Star for bravery. A man who destroyed Francis's life.

I recommend this book to anyone who desires to read it but especially students who are studying the book. I chose 4 star on the story because I feel there were sections such as near the en I felt there could have been more of a interaction with Nicole and Francis. Overall I highly enjoyed and recommend.

I thought this would be a nice way of reading a book with a class of 14 year olds. Nope! They all ended up asking me to read it to them. Total waste of money and time.

ruined by the performance

Never expect cheerful stories from Robert Cormier! A teenage boy returns to his hometown to deal with unfinished business. The events of the years before he enlisted as an underage soldier unfold as he revisits the places where he grew up and met his first love. Fantastic representation of facial disfigurement as Francis learns to live with what was left of his face after a grenade blast.
A well crafted story by one of the fathers of ya fiction.

An honest and painful story of return from war

Studying it for GCSE and this helped massively. Narration was clear. And the plot was easy to understand.
