Summary

Shortlisted for best audiobook in the Specsavers National Book Awards 2018.

Penguin presents the audiobook edition of Heroes, written and read by Stephen Fry.

There are heroes - and then there are Greek heroes. Few mere mortals have ever embarked on such bold and heart-stirring adventures, overcome myriad monstrous perils or outwitted scheming vengeful gods quite as stylishly and triumphantly as Greek heroes.

In this companion to his best-selling Mythos, Stephen Fry brilliantly retells these dramatic, funny, tragic and timeless tales. Join Jason aboard the Argo as he quests for the Golden Fleece. See Atalanta - who was raised by bears - outrun any man before being tricked with golden apples. Witness wily Oedipus solve the riddle of the Sphinx, and discover how Bellerophon captures the winged horse Pegasus to help him slay the monster Chimera.

Heroes is the story of what we mortals are truly capable of - at our worst and our very best.

Wonderful

Truly enjoyable, both the story and the narration are perfect. This book goes deeper and more detailed into ancient Greek stories than any other book I've ever read. Surely recommend to anyone interested in Greek mythology.

Continuation of mythos

Mythos was a 5 star audiobook for me. This book is a continuation in terms of story but also in terms of quality. Fry's vocabulary and style are masterful and his voice is very agreeable to listen to. You will be surprised how many different characters he can depict just by changing his voice slightly. He has great respect for the myths and obviously studied then diligently. But somehow his work does not sound scholarly at all. The muzes must have been kind to him.
