6 stars! Suberb!

Summary
Following the death of his 10-year-old son, physician Peter Croft embarks on a desperate, seemingly random search for a missing child, risking his sanity, even his life in a grief-induced quest. His journey propels him into the darkest reaches of human suffering and pits him squarely against an adversary whose own obsession defies all reason.
Here After is a story of love, loss, obsession, and redemption, with gripping action sequences and a subtle paranormal underpinning. A compelling listen from a seasoned storyteller, Costello's sixth novel will keep you listening deep into the night.

Great family drama
Any additional comments?
I enjoyed this book. It starts with a key event - Peter in hospital witnessing the death of his son. This has the advantage of getting straight to the story (which I like) but it does mean I didn't really care much that David died (because I didn't know him or Peter). This made the story a bit clinical, but over time it developed into a family drama. I wouldn't call it a thriller although it does fall into that style for the last couple of hours. In my opinion this spoils the last part of the book - hence four stars not five, because it falls into cliché.
The story follows Peter and his grief, which leads him to a support group and there he makes a friend whose child is missing (kidnapped). In dealing with his own grief Peter explores ways to help his friend, Roger.
There are only a few key characters in the entire story and we follow the story chronologically (apart from some brief reminiscences) which made it ideally suited for audio. It is gripping, in that I wanted to know what happened, but I felt it was more subtle than a thriller -until the last couple of hours which are predictably 'let's chase the bad guy ourselves without the police and hope readers don't realise how silly that is'.
The narration was good, clear and precise. I felt it was too clinical initially as it didn't help me get to know Peter, but it also suited his detached professionalism (Peter is a doctor). The narrator didn't do any voices which I personally like however this didn't work well for one character-Graham -who is a 6 year old child because he spoke like an adult. Apart from that, it was good listen and I would try something by this author and narrator in future.
I recommend this book. Finally I should say I received a free copy of this book from Audioblast in exchange for an honest review.

Always follow your Heart
I received this book from the author free of charge for an unbiased review. Thank you for the gift! Here After , through the excellent narration, jumps at you and grabs you into the plot. With the twist and turns and escalating mystery, you will not want to turn off the audio. Peter and Roger, strangers who meet at a bereavement meeting for those who have lost loved ones, get to know each other and their stories. Peter believes he has information to help Roger locate his six-year-old kidnapped son. By way of psychics and shady characters, the two find themselves in harm's way and danger but keep pushing themselves to find the little boy.
Yes, I will refer this book to friends. What a great read and a lesson to always follow your heart!

This one will really stick with you
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Yes I would. It is a complicated novel with multiple aspects such as paranormal, mystery, crime, angst and all manner of drama. It is almost overkill at times , but Costello pulls it off.
If you’ve listened to books by Sean Costello before, how does this one compare?
This is my first, but won't be my last. Certainly his reviews appear worth the investment of time and credits.
What does Timothy McKean bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
McKean really owns the characters, and is completely convincing in the depth of emotion he shows here. An outstanding performance.
Do you think Here After needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
No, I think it wraps up the way we would want it to.

I was going to download this one anyway, but the author approached me, so thanks! This is an outstanding offering. Maybe not the most uplifting of books I have heard in awhile mind you, but with enough thoughtfulness and rich characters, let alone concepts, that it leaves the listener fascinated and wanting more.
Highly recommended.

Killer Beginning!
The first couple of chapters were heartbreaking. And I really liked the paranormal aspects. I spent most of the last part of the story waiting for it to show up again. It kind of felt like the paranormal figure was a jerk for not making an effort when it would have mattered. That confused me.
