Summary

Rose Grahame had everything Alex D’Arcy dreams of. A handsome husband, a stunning home and a baby boy with twinkling blue eyes and a smile that would brighten the darkest of days. It’s a stark contrast to Alex’s life - her dead-end job, her borderline addiction to drink and pills, her failed engagement and her cluttered flat. But the women’s lives are about to collide - and nothing will ever be the same again.

Strangers in a lift in a shopping centre, Alex gestures to Rose to go ahead of her when they reach the bottom floor. But tragedy strikes when a car ploughs into the young mum - killing her instantly - before driving off at speed. But was this a tragic accident? Or was it more than that? And just how involved is Emily truly going to become?

With twists that will keep you guessing until the very end, Her Name Was Rose makes you question who you can really trust and if any of us are truly honest about ourselves in the social media obsessed world.

A fantastic psychological thriller

I loved the semi-Sliding Doors concept of this novel i.e. you let a woman walk out the door before you and she is hit by a car when it should have been you. Claire Allan deftly works up the possibilities around this - was it an accident or intentional? Was the car actually meant for Emily or Rose? Emily has to get closer to Rose's apparently perfect life - and confront her own demons - to find out. The story is gripping and immersive - you'll feel like you work in that dentist's clinic - and the narrator does a fantastic job of bringing the different characters to life.

Tense Page-Turner

Her Name Was Rose is a great listen- I really enjoyed it. This is a tightly-woven and tense suspense tale that is told from two points of view: Rose, an adored wife and mother who was tragically killed in a hit-and-run, speaking in first-person from the past; and Emily, a witness to Rose's death, a lonely and struggling woman who gets tangled in the web of Rose's former life, little by little. Well-written, enjoyable, great narration and hard to put down, the plot was interesting and, in my opinion, stands apart from other suspense novels. This audiobook keeps itself moving through interesting characters and well-paced storytelling. This one is entertaining and will keep you up past your bedtime, and it's well-worth a credit. Recommended!

Boring with Annoying Protagonist

I found this book to be very annoying. Rose was such a pathetic character and an airhead. She was a total stalker and absolute cuckoo bird. Yes the author tried to package her up as a damaged soul but I just found everything about her to be annoying.

The way she constantly was telling people they could talk to her, she was just too desperate. And she really didn’t evolve into anything better. The truth had to be practically jammed down her throat. Just dumb.

I could see the plot from a mile away. Anyone that loves mysteries will not find this one hard to figure out. Hardly any thrills with a cliche plot. Then the author ties everything up in a neat bow in the end. She was totally obsessed with Rose and her life and in the end, she hooks her claws into someone else involved in Rose’s story.
