Summary

An American heiress married for her dowry.

When Victoria fell in love with the Earl of Pembroke, she never imagined he'd heartlessly wed, bed, and abandon her in the countryside. After he suddenly returns, determined to prove to her he's a changed man, she's not about to forgive him, trust him, or succumb to his scorching kisses.

A future duke trapped by obligation.

Will has devoted his life to enraging his loathsome father by creating one scandal after the next. Duty forces him back to the wife he resents, but he isn't prepared for the raw desire she makes him feel. Seducing her will hardly be a tedious task. Guarding his heart, however, is another matter entirely.

A marriage of convenience no more.

What begins in deception and necessity turns into an attraction neither can deny. Can their newfound passion keep them together forever, or will the truth tear them apart?

Contains mature themes.

Awful Narration!!!!!

The story line was the only thing that kept me listening. Gabrielle Baker does not have the talent to be a narrator. The whole time I was trying to figure out if she had a lisp or if she was trying to change her voice. It was awful. I will definitely remember her name and make sure not to pick another book she’s narrated.

DREADFUL NARRATION

Don't bother. I couldn't be sure if it was just crappy writing or crappy narration...both I think. Skip this one and really anything narrated by Miss Baker. Sorry to say, but she really should not be doing these narrations. The writing didn't help.

Glad I didn’t waste a credit

This is my first time reading a Scarlet Scott book. Wish I’d read some reviews before choosing this one.
If you enjoy listening to a “hero’s” mentally droning on and on and on about needing to get under his wife’s skirt, then this is the book for you.
This book is SO INCREDIBLY LAME! The word “depraved” is used to excess and, honestly, for pretty banal thoughts.

Zero stars... Does she have no dignity?

Ugh, PATHETIC!

Overall, it begins and ends with sex and not much else. I've read books with weak FMC, but this gal ranks at the top!

This stupid FMC is emotionally abused in the worst way but rolls over for more of his lies again and again.

He never views her more than an object until allegedly he does at the last minute. From the 1st chapter on he is consumed by trying to f@@@k her. No storyline, no interesting back story. Just a poor little rich guy who daddy never loved. zzzzzzz

There is no depth in any of the endless hours. What a bore of a story!

Not a second time

Between the over the top prose and the 1940's narration style, I had a difficult time finishing this one. I'm definitely not going to go to book two. The only reason it didn't get one star is because I liked the basis of the story.

Tough to listen

I liked the story, which I had read it instead of listened. The narrator has a lisp and it made it hard to focus on the story, I might dig up physical copies to get the rest of the books in the series. I liked the narrators cadence and performance, but the lisp was hard to get into.

Sadly, a Great Disappointment

The premise of the story had potential but the execution -- in both writing and narration -- fell short of the mark. The plot never delves beyond the simplistic. Other than the "wicked husband," who is more emotionally stunted than rascally, there is little character development. The narration is so-so, with accent quirkiness abounding, although she did pretty well with the characters she had to work with. I'm more hopeful than confident that future novels will improve. Ms. Scott, pleasepleaseplease prove me wrong.

Find a different book

I’m on chapter 3 and I’m done. The performance is not at all good. Why would anyone with a lisp want to be a narrator. Not trying to be mean, but facts are facts. I had planned to read all 3 books in this series, but am off to find something else. I just can’t finish it.

My first book by this author and this narrator.

Too much agonizing dialogue, only passabley narrated. Downright cringey in places. The story was good, intriguing but when the reader places oneself into the story the narration with mispronounced words, it drags. It would have been so much better if the FMC spoke Only as an American , and the MC only as a real male British narrator, it may have saved this lingering tale.

It was okay.

Her first book was so good others pale in comparison. I almost didn’t get past the first few chapters I was so infuriated with the way the bride was allowing herself to be treated. Glad I stuck it out,

The narrator did a great job as well. Nothing is worse when trying to immerse yourself in story but being distracted by the narrator instead. Overall, I recommend.
