I really liked this start to the series. Maverick is an alpha dragon and they first shift when they are 18 years old. Before their first shift, he got really violent and therefore, had to leave his home and his girlfriend at the time, Ava. Ava was unknowingly pregnant at that time and they couldn't find each other. Seventeen years later and they meet again. Now, can they get over the past to be together again? There was also a territory scuffle to make this a pretty well rounded story. I felt some moments of frustration with Maverick but I really liked Ava and Mav's family overall.

I listened to the audiobook. Phoenix McKay was good as a narrator. She had to play both Mav and Ava and I kind of wish there was a male narrator as well, especially because this story was told through the point of view of both Mav and Ava. However, overall Phoenix McKay did well even playing Mav's roles.

I loved listening to how Ava and Mav met and how they reconnected . Going to listen to book 3 now

The MC was someone I could understand and relate with. Really helped me get addicted to the storyline right away. I loved the mystery love concept and finally finding "daddy". But I also really enjoyed the Black Claw Dragons home. Just felt like everyone was connected. Couldn't get enough of these characters. Can't wait to keep going! AudiobookObsessionReviewers

I started off reading the book, having downloaded it from Kindle unlimited. However, I realised quite quickly that I didn’t want to stop reading as I was hooked. So upon realising there was an audible version I downloaded that and listened whilst working! Finished in one day, looking forward to book 2.
