Summary

FBI Agents Cameron Ross and Andrea Sullivan found the unexpected when they met amongst the warm red rocks and cliffs of Sedona - each other. That commitment, along with their ingenuity, courage and resolve, will be tested along the most barren of stretches in California's Mojave Desert.

Someone is using the bleak highways to dump women's bodies, but in a landscape where an inviting road can curve into a sand-choked mirage, and a true oasis can be invisible under a white-hot sun, clues can blow away in the wind.

In this sequel to Devil's Rock, Gerri Hill pits two remarkable women against the harsh and bitter desert and an implacable killer.

10/10 I Couldn't stop listening. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

So much sleep was lost because I couldn't stop listening to this book. I have listened to many lesbian based books and to my surprise this story has been the BEST. Its had everything you could possibly want from a story.

Book 1 - Devils Rock was great - listen/read this first.

Just a warning Hells Highway did have some intensive parts a little gory at times but not over the top.

buy buy buy listen listen listen. You won't regret it.

Another “page turner”

Yes I know it’s an audio book so I didn’t turn the pages. But I was on my toes most of the time and the combination of a great story with a great narration was superb.

Don’t miss this one.

It’s a thriller!

Ross & Sullivan are back and on the trail of another serial killer. The dynamic between the two agents is electric. Great story and excellent narration.

It was pretty dumb, actually

I got it because it is rare to see so many five star ratings and virtually nothing else. I am guessing they are mostly from people who are just happy to see any lesbian love story in the mainstream, no matter how mediocre; because the crime thriller part of it was pretty ridiculous.

** Mild spoilers

There was nothing realistic about it. Everyone, including superiors, ignore the fact that a senior agent is openly cohabiting with and in a sexual relationship with a subordinate, who, apparently, is in the job solely so they can be together at all times. Everyone ignores the conflicts, and resulting poor judgment, that put everyone in danger. The repeatedly ignore protocol even after pointing it out. They accept and go along with law enforcement agents announcing their plain intention to simply murder the suspect on sight and therefore don't care about things like evidence being admissible in court. Not to mention how ridiculously easy it was to solve the mystery... twice, based on lots of "speculation."
It was just silly.

There was no heart, despite the story's own claim that there was. The interpersonal dynamics were weird. Casual sexual harassment and sexism by several characters was tolerated by all of them. The victims were given virtually no consideration whatsoever. Some of them were openly disparaged even afterward, and then written off as "it's the job" or "it was just sex" and "I didn't really care about her/him." It just felt icky given the way they set them up.

As for the narrator, she often spoke sotto voce, even when not called for by the story, making it hard to hear without earphones. She sounded the entire time like she was trying to keep a secret or not be overheard.

Not a book I would recommend if you cared about any sort of realism.

Another Hit!

This duo is fantastic! I hope there are more books to come about these women and their associates. Although I know that procedure as it's described isn't always accurate, it doesn't bother me a bit.
Kept me on edge and listening straight through. I know that there is a love story that's fantastic but the police/FBI is portion is also cutting edge. Serial killers beware!
Thanks Gerri. More please!

Great Sequel!

This was a great sequel! The only other Gerri Hill two-parter that I like more was Keepers of the Cave and Weeping Walls. Actually, this one might be a tie.

I really can’t say enough about Abby Craden. She adds depth, nuance and layers to these already fantastic stories. There are so many books that I absolutely adore but have mediocre or bad narration. And I can’t help but bemoan the fact that they’d be two, three, even four times better if Abby narrated them. I’d honestly pay more for a book that is narrated by her.

If any Lesbian Romance authors are reading this, please, please, please have Abby narrate your books!
