Summary

Noah

I came to the Hellion Club to solve a murder, not to become some banker’s boy toy.

All my life, my omega status has been a pain my ass. Shaping what other people assume about me. Determining who I date, or who’ll date me. My own biology trying to tell me to slow down and have babies. Well screw that. Only I get to decide how I live my life, and I decided a long time ago I was going to be the best damn detective this city had ever seen.

And yet here I am anyway, pregnant in the middle of a murder investigation. The highest profile investigation of my career. The thing that could shoot me to the top. Instead I’m busy fending off my would-be alpha, the oh so posh and traditional Sebastian Banks, Hellfire Club elite. If he had his way, I’d spend the rest of my life either in bed or the kitchen. If my body had its way, it would happily let him.

It’s everything I’ve spent my whole life resisting. Now more than ever, I have to focus on what really matters to me. But I can’t help but wonder…is it really just simple biology that keeps pulling me back towards this man? Or is it something more?

Sebastian

I’ve always lived my life according to certain expectations, and in return life has met mine.

An omega cop who loudly asserts his independence at every opportunity falls nowhere within the boundaries of the expected.

And yet Noah Wells manages to be all the more irresistible for it.

I don’t understand it. Or him. I don’t know why he resists me or the attraction between us. More riddles to unravel, but I can be patient.

I can be anything he wants or needs me to be, if he’ll just give me the chance to show him. Funny, I thought I was supposed to be the alpha between us. Maybe there’s more to his modern ideas than I would have thought. Not that he needs to know that, of course…

Murder, mystery, and mpreg abound in this 50,000 word tale of opposites attracting. The sparks between these two can be explosive, so please be 18 years or older when following them into the bedroom!

A decent story

Storyline: 3.5 🌟
Romance: 2 🌟
Narrator: 4 🌟

First things first: the story was pretty good. It was a decent suspense plotline, and kept this from being a DNF.

However, I felt no connection to the romance story at all. I liked Noah, the Omega. He was strong in his personal beliefs, and he stood up for himself. I did not like Sebastian at all. I think we are supposed to understand why he behaves like an elitist bigot, but I just had no sympathy for him whatsoever. I did not understand why the MCs kept trying to work things out; basically because I didn't see any romance between them.

The narrator did a good job with the material he had to work with. There were a few things that could have been caught during the editing process of the book, but the narrator did his job well.

A bit of a mixed bag, but enjoyable

Full disclosure - I have not read/listened to any of the of the preceding books in the series, so any confusion with this story is on me. The story can be experienced as a standalone, but I think I would have enjoyed it more if I knew more about the club and the drama that occurred before (incidents referred to several times).
I enjoyed Noah and Sebastian's relationship - definitely not typical, at least not on Noah's side. I enjoyed the mystery as well.

Daniel James Lewis was good as the narrator. His performance was more of the 'telling a story' vs. acting it out, which was enjoyable it's own way. I enjoyed listening and would listen to more by the author and narrator.
I received a review copy; the opinions expressed are my own without expectations.

A rough and tumble case

These two are a difficult couple. Noah is a headstrong and independent omega who has a very defined idea of who he is and what he wants from his life. Sebastian also has a very definite idea of what roles they each play in society. Neither of them match. They have some chemistry and a baby on the way, but not much else. They don’t have many things in common and their ideas completely clash in all ways. It was kinda hard to follow at times and the editing needed some work. I like other stories where each character has their own voice, but this narrator didn’t differentiate between them. The entire thing was read in one voice which made it difficult to follow at times.

Very good!

I very much enjoyed this one! I had read a couple of books by Aiden Bates but had never heard this narrator...he brought these characters to life in a beautiful way! I plan to go back and read the rest of the books in this series!

Pretty good!

The story itself was pretty good. I liked Noah and how independent and conscientious about his job he was. Sebastian, though, was such an alpha*ole, totally conservative and wanting to keep Noah in a gilded cage. Thank God Noah wasn't the kind to allow that to happen to him. At least they finally reached a compromise and Sebastian seemed to be doing more of an effort in the last part of the book.

I didn't particularly care for Noah's father, either. The fact that he was so deferential to Sebastian and didn't really see how wrong he'd been to violate Noah's trust like he did, grated on my nerves. Other than that, I enjoyed the mystery arc and listening to Noah and Vasquez pursue the killer.

The narration was good, sometimes I wasn't sure which of the characters was speaking, but Daniel James Lewis's voice was pleasant enough that I didn't mind that much about that. I was disappointed at the way he pronounced the Spanish surnames, since it's my first language, I always expect narrators to do their homework and pronounce them as we do here, but I guess, you can't have everything.

Enjoyable!

Chances

This is the fifth book in The Hellion Club Series. What an sensational book the writing was good. The plot was entertaining and it was steady throughout the book. I found the story and characters likeable. The characters were developed and thought out. Noah is an Omega and Sebastian is an Alpha and they are the MC’s of this book. The narration wasn’t bad, but it could’ve been better. It wasn’t monotone which was good but at times it could be unclear who was speaking. I can recommend this book as a good read and listen. I voluntarily read an advance copy of this book for an honest review.

This is a terrificstory with a nice blend of mystery, action, and romance. I enjoyed getting to know Noah and Sebastian and following along as their journey. The narrator did a great job of bringing these characters to life. It made listening to the book more enjoyable.

Noah & Sebastian

I realley enjoyed this story of Noah and Sebastian. It's a great mix of romance, action, and mystery. Noah and Sebastian are great together and they have incredible chemistry. There were times I wanted to smack Sebastian for his attitude towards Noah and his being an omega but I'm so glad that Noah is strong willed and held his ground! The narrator did a great job with the story and the characters. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
