Summary

Tricky is one of the most original music artists to emerge from the UK in the past 30 years. His signature sound, coupled with deep, questioning lyrics, took the UK by storm in the early 1990s and was part of the soundtrack that defined the post-rave generation.

This unique, no-holds barred autobiography is not only a portrait of an incredible artist - it is also a gripping slice of social history packed with extraordinary anecdotes and voices from the margins of society.

Tricky examines how his creativity has helped him find a different path to that of his relatives, some of whom were bare-knuckle fighters and gangsters, and how his mother's suicide has had a lifelong effect on him, both creatively and psychologically. With his unique heritage and experience, his story will be one of the most talked-about music autobiographies of the decade.

Know All Best Boy

An honest insight in to a tricky mind.
Wouldve been best read by the man himself...the storyteller lacked depth with his over enthused exclaimings !! It needed to be told in darker hues...textured with genuine depth of experience. I oscillated between liking him.and wanting him to do one...the shouty mouth little prick .( Pacifist my arse). But Legend all the same. inspired to listen to his sonic journey now. see if he is as good as he proclaims himself to be or are they just the last rantings of an indulged delusional ex been. lets see....the mind is a Tricky place to Be.

The life and times of Tricky 🌟

Wow! I’m not even sure I can write a review that will do this book the justice that it deserves. Tricky’s book is an authentic and honest look back at his life, not just his life within the music industry but all areas of his personal and private life. I believe some people are sent here to show us that great things can be achieved in life through adversity and I whole heartily believe Tricky is one of those people. Listening to his story I believe that he has withstood the test of time in his industry for his authenticity and honesty to his craft and himself, and I totally stand with him when he says that his best is yet to come!
I loved the tales of Tricky’s family and the Godfrey family of Bristol, my family come from the Godfrey lineage too and I completely resonated with the family tales and the nostalgia that it brought. The Godfrey men are tough but there is no strength like that of a woman with Godfrey blood in her veins 💜.
I won’t go any further as I don’t want to ruin the book for anyone else but I just want to say, I read a lot and even if you don’t know Tricky’s music or aren’t necessarily a fan this is still an amazing read.
Wishing Tricky and his family all the best right now through this tough time 🌟

wasting time and money on stories you heard before

Well, it seems to me evident that Tricky is having financial issues and he tries to capitalize his "legacy". No interesting stories behind albums, no interesting insights into his past relationships, he jumps around periods of his biography focusing desperately on his L.A. gangsta period and stints between his most successfull albums. He totally omits the period of Juxtapose - one of his worst albums and focuses on handful of stories we already know and heard gazillion times...
I understand he had tough childhood and his education is, somewhat, poor (even though he thinks himself as a self-made man) - the insights he gives onto situations from his life makes me think he is a buffon with huge ego. He has a talent and ear to put things haphazardly together, but he is a poor composer. There wouldn't be Tricky if there hadn't been people behind, backing him up musically and technically. The big legend unravelled himself, I think there is really not much behind the myths created around Tricky,

more about his life than his music

had hoped for more info about the music he made rather than drug and gangster tales.

Great and sad story

Very touching story. Well put together with memories of close people.
Badly read though. Even though the voice is very close to Tricky’s but actor is overacting, screaming when there is no need.
Entertaining but annoying to listen to sometimes.
