Summary

A short story, prequel to the Heathcliff Lennox Murder Mystery series

Spring, 1918. The Great War is at a crucial stage, the Germans are making one last push into France, and the Allies are struggling to hold them back. Battle lines are shifting, and men, and their machines, are being sent up and down the front to shore up defenses.

Major Heathcliff Lennox, and his batman Greggs, are told to report to their new HQ. They set off on a sunlit day to fly the distance, but the enemy is never far away, and disaster strikes. They're sent crashing to the ground behind enemy lines, where life, death, and love await.

Major Heathcliff Lennox: WW1 pilot, six feet 3 inches, tousled dark blond hair, named after the hero of Wuthering Heights by his romantically minded mother - much to his great annoyance.

Another great Heathcliff Lennox

Sam Dewhurst-Phillips as always does a terrific job in narrating France 1918 (as he does in all the books in the Heathcliff-Lennox series). I definitely enjoyed the audible version of the book since it never dragged and had both humor and insight into Heathcliff-Lennox character, his experiences during WW1 and the girl who stoled his heart.

I am a huge fan of the Heathcliff-Lennox series and have never been disappointed in any of the books or the audible versions. Would recommend.

Adore this series!

There are so many things I enjoy about this series, the leading man is a real man’s man of his time. Stubborn, chivalrous, funny, a dashing war hero & more Heathcliff Lennox delivers. The supporting cast each have their own quirks that endear then to me, especially Tommy such a delight! Sam Dewhurst Phillips is a flawless narrator who brings each character to life in a special way. More please Mrs. Menuhin!!

Repeat

If you have read all of the books you don’t gain much from this. If it had been $1.99 or less I would have given it 5 stars but $5 was a bit steep for the little extra info I gained and the lack of story. But this won’t deter me from purchasing Karen’s future Lenox full length novels. As always narration was spot on and enjoyable!

Wonderful, as always

An excellent short story which opens up the world of Lennox and gives a welcome backstory to his time in WW1. The usual top notch narration by Sam Dewhurst-Phillips (one of the best narrators on Audible) and a wonderful writing by Karen Menuhin. A real treat!

Love Heathcliff Lenox!

This was a short sweet story giving us a look into Heathcliff’s experience in the war before all the other titles in the series. I have listened to the series as they are available and this was a touching tale to add to the collection.

We all wanted to know

1918, France, WW1, romance, verbal-humor, sly-humor, RAF, escape*****

Lennox meets the girl of his dreams after crashing his plane with Greggs along. She is a French local and helps the resistance and is instrumental in Lennox's being able to return to England. If you've read the other books you know how important she is to him.
Voice actor Sam Dewhurst-Phillips really is the Voice of Lennox with his droll way of interpreting the text. Perfect match!
