Summary

In The Mastery of Love, don Miguel Ruiz illuminates the fear-based beliefs and assumptions that undermine love and lead to suffering and drama in our relationships. Using insightful stories to bring his message to life, Ruiz shows us how to heal our emotional wounds, recover the freedom and joy that are our birthright, and restore the spirit of playfulness that is vital to loving relationships.

In the Toltec tradition, three fundamental masteries guide us to our true nature, which is happiness, freedom, and love.

The first is the Mastery of Awareness. This mastery teaches us to be aware of what we really are. It is the first step toward freedom because we cannot be free if we don't know what we are, or what kind of freedom we are looking for. The Toltecs said, "Let us see ourselves with truth", and they created a mastery just for awareness.

The second is the Mastery of Transformation, which teaches us how to become spiritual warriors and stalk our actions and reactions so we can break free of the knowledge that enslaves us. This mastery shows us how to change the dream of our life by changing our agreements and beliefs.

The Mastery of Love is the result of the first two masteries. From the Toltec perspective, everything is made of Love. Love is Life itself. When we master Love, we align with the Spirit of Life passing through us. We are no longer the body, or the mind, or the soul; we are Love. Then every action we take is an expression of Love, and Love in action can only produce happiness.

When we master Awareness, Transformation, and Love, we reclaim our divinity and become one with God. This is the goal of the Toltec.

The perfect relationship?

This book is an amazing and succinct description of why there is so much pain and difficulty within relationships and, most importantly, it offers tips on how to change our perception of relationships to work towards healthy happy loving ones.

Very eye opening

I was sceptical at first because the book gave me cult like vibes, however, really loved the ideas in the book and the fact it is short and sweet so finished it all in 3 days.

My favourite chapters explained the following:
*how love is unconditional
*no one is responsible for my happiness and I am not responsible for anyone else's happiness
*the importance of self love
*the importance of playing and exploring even as adults

Would really recommend 🌸

Required reading

When I started listening to this book I realised I'd already read it a year ago on Kindle. My initial thought was to return it and re-use the credit, but I was on a dog walk and left it playing anyway, and I'm glad I did. It's just brilliant. So many wonderful and valuable lessons about love and relationships. This book should be read by everyone, several times. I won't be returning it, so that I can listen to it over and over.

Wounds

Most memorable moment was understanding how powerfull Love & Forgiveness are when you go through that process as an individual and that journey of life.

My psychologist recommend me this book

My psychologist recommend me this book and i enjoyed it. I am starting to understand that we are force within us and this force is the life, a part of god. Thank you for this book. I will re-listen it a few times to assimilate it better.

Not quite as good as The Four Agreements...

But still a very good read! It repeats many points from The 4 Agreements, with a different focus this time. Many good and sensible things can be taken to practise (self-love, tolerance, acceptance, forgiveness) while others seem a little naive to me - like comparing your relationship to your partner to the one you have with your dog. Not really a convincing demonstration in my opinion.

We would all love to meet "the partner we don't want / don't need to change anything about", however this is the whole challenge or else everyone would be happy on this planet!
Therefore the parts with focus on self-love and self-respect are great, the rest of the advice as to mastering the relationship are not as great.

Still... enough "food for thought" to recommend! I Ioved the performance, specially the lady who has such a beautiful, soothing voice.

Words of wisdom

I’ve read many books but I can honestly say this book was by far the best book I’ve ever read
Helping me on my self love journey, learning more about humans and love. The author writes with such wisdom and knowledge. Also the narrators voice were both very smoothing and peaceful to listen too.
