Publisher's Summary

Whether your pregnancy was meticulously planned, medically coaxed, or happened by surprise, one thing is certain - your life will never be the same.

If you are pregnant, or planning a pregnancy, then this book will be an asset to your journey. In practical wording and presentation, it covers essential topics such as antenatal screening, foetal development, and high-risk pregnancy.

The first stage of pregnancy can be challenging. You may not have informed others yet, but are still having to cope with symptoms, such as tiredness and nausea, with no outward signs of pregnancy.

  • Chapter one can help you prepare for the "whys and wherefores" of symptoms, along with some tips to help you cope.
  • If you are confused about the tests you will require, through pregnancy, look no further. Pregnancy: The Ultimate Guide to Pregnancy and Birth has a thorough guide to the relevant blood tests and antenatal scans.
  • Nutrition in pregnancy is vitally important for mother and baby. The myth about "eating for two" is simply not true. It is advised that only an extra 350 to 500 calories are needed in your second and third trimesters. Without the correct balance of vitamins, minerals, nutrients, and calories, you are putting both you and your baby at risk. Excess calories, in the way of fats and sugar, can cause gestational diabetes and birth complications. This guide will help you understand the dietary requirements of pregnancy and covers foods that should be avoided.
  • Exercising may not always be at the forefront of your mind, when pregnant; especially in the initial stages, if suffering morning sickness; or the late stages when just standing can be a chore! Along with diet, exercise can help maintain a healthy weight throughout pregnancy.

"Comprehensive pregnancy guide with up-to-date info"

This is a very comprehensive book that I really enjoyed listening. There were two things I was looking for in a pregnancy guide and this nailed both of them. Was up-to-date information: this book includes current pain medications and current diagnostic testing methods. It even has information on where new research is leading. The thing I was looking for was a happy medium between working with your doctor and birthing naturally without reading like a text book. I like that the author doesn't assume that your doctor wants to strap you to a bed and shoot you full of pain medication. It allows for a happy balance between listening to your doctor's advice and following through on a more natural birth plan or any method of birth that you choose.

    "The perfect pregnancy book"
Would you consider the audio edition of Pregnancy to be better than the print version?

Audio is better than the other versions, it is more convenient. I really love it.

Have you listened to any of Anne-Marie Mueschke’s other performances? How does this one compare?

Anne-Marie Mueschke’ was steady and clear when he narrated this audiobook.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes, I was really feeling emotional

    Any additional comments?

A lot of information about your body changing, medical information as well as what the infant is going through developmentally was good to see. Compared to other books on the market, the information is presented in easy to understand language and format. I think that this book can be a valuable tool for any mother who is either expecting or currently trying to conceive.

    "Fabulous!"

I found this book so helpful and I really do recommend it. This was my second pregnancy and labour. My first labour/recovery being very traumatic and to be honest almost prevented me from having anymore children. This book along with the Headspace app completely helped reduce my fear and gave me so much confidence and strength. Pregnancy was enjoyable and labour was drug free and very clam. Thank you Dr Jane Smart!

    "Just lovely.,"

If you're having trouble connecting with your pregnancy, and processing some of the emotions around being prenatally sick (constantly in my case), this is a gorgeous way of slowing the mind down enough to reflect on the different facets of what's happening to you. It's gentle and loving and includes some really nice exercises to aid a deeper connection with your experience. I no longer feel in the dark! I was thinking of buying What to Expect When you're Expecting, but I'm not going to now- this book is all I need! Really lovely.

    "Your survival guide"

This book is especially helpful to first time mothers, as it helps them to understand what to expect in a pregnancy as your body goes through so many changes. It pretty much takes you through the changes your body is going through and what to expect throughout the pregnancy and the birth and what to expect after your baby arrives. I really liked this book because it had a very non-biased approach to dealing with all the issues that come up during pregnancy and childbirth.

    "Good content and helpful"

Enjoyed listening this. although sometimes you may feel there is too much info.. But ofcourse nothing like actually experiencing a baby! Very helpful. Probably my favorite books that I purchased. Overall, this book was a thorough guide for pregnancy and childbirth. It REALLY advocated for breastfeeding, and as a result, there isn't a lot of useful info for moms who may not be able to/choose not to go that route. Thanks!

    "Recommend This To All Expecting"
What insight do you think you’ll apply from Pregnancy?

I wanted to listen ONE book during my first pregnancy, because I didn't want to overwhelm myself with information and this is THE one. It covers everything from pregnancy to labor to newborn care, and I highly recommend it to all who are expecting!

    Any additional comments?

Very detailed and helpful. The book claims to not be biased but it definitely pushes "all natural" methods more than others. Still give plenty of info on all options.

    Any additional comments?

Very good condition. I love the book! Very helpful and easy to understand. Lots of great information. Wonderful, detailed book that goes all the way through initial taking care of a newborn stage. As a first time mom, I am finding this book to be a great resource, and excellent reinforcement of what my husband and I learned in our childbirth class. Have bought / read both, and would 100% recommend this book over "What to expect".

This book was a great guide for my partner and I. Most pregnancy books are totally geared toward straight, mostly traditional families. This guided us through our unique journey and allowed me to feel way less crazy!

It will definitely help you prepare through your pregnancy and give you some very detailed information. What did you love best about Pregnancy?

I used this book for guidance during conception and early pregnancy and found it to be the best of a few books we bought. Lots of info in a manageable, empowering manner.

Anne-Marie Mueschke has done a great Job the explanations were very good and neat performance..

    "pregnancy gudie"

This book was recommended to me by a friend who is also my chiropractor. It is a wonderful resource for understanding the NATURAL process that is birth, and the small factors that you can take into account when planning your birth in order to reduce the need to turn it into a medical procedure. It's not a book that will patronize or criticism one choice over another, rather it will inform you. . I will recommend this book to all my maternity clients. What a great gift this book will make for the next mommy to be.
