Summary

Are you too nice?

If you find it hard to be assertive, directly ask for what you want, or say "no" to others, then you just might be suffering from too much niceness.

In this controversial book, world-renowned confidence expert, Dr. Aziz Gazipura, takes an incisive look at the concept of nice. Through his typical style, Dr. Aziz uses engaging stories, humor, and disarming vulnerability to cut through the nice conditioning and liberate the most bold, expressive, authentic version of you.

You'll discover how to:

  • Easily say "no" when you want to and need to
  • Confidently and effectively ask for what you want
  • Speak up more freely in all your relationships
  • Eliminate feelings of guilt, anxiety, and worry about what others will think

Best Self Help to grow your confidence

If your looking for quick book to read and then at the end of the book wham! your a self confident person and motivated person. This book is definately NOT for you as your probably never going to get anywhere anyway. This is an eye opening book to realise the pitfalls of being nice and the steps to make a change.Ive found this book tremendously helpful inspite of the long read. But everything is so important and needed to help you understand why you try to be nice and why it isnt good. If your looking for a quick read motivationaal book ,skip this one but if you need to make a change and get more confident this is the book !! Reading through this book is as painful (because of the truth behing the nice person mask) as making the painful change but well worth it.

Long and self indulgent

This audiobook is made excessively long (18hrs) by the authors autobiographical style of recounting many stories of his own life when explaining a point.
I found it hard to keep going with it as it just seemed never ending without going anywhere. Not for me.

Better than excellent!

I never leave reviews, but this goes to show you what a great impact this book had on me .

Very good, I learned a lot from this book, more so than any other book I've ever read.

I even created my Bill of Rights and I live by those. it is my great pleasure to recommend this book and its author.

Exceeded My Expectations

Would you listen to Not Nice again? Why?

Absolutely. I was pleasantly surprised how helpful this was. Lot's of "AH HA!" moments. I'll be referencing back to the content many times I'm sure.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The author himself.

Which character – as performed by Dr. Aziz Gazipura PsyD – was your favorite?

Again, the author himself.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

How to instantly take control of your life and happiness.

Any additional comments?

This was a real revelation. I think I'm getting a handle on controlling my time now and it feels great. I thought it would mean being a jerk, but once you understand it correctly you see it's not that at all. Great stuff!

Are you 'too nice?'

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! Dr. Aziz puts great life into the narration and the topic is so spot on and poignant. I learned a lot and even the sections that I maybe didn't struggle with, helped me learn how others may be viewing something through their lens. I recommend this book for anyone who has trouble being too nice, standing up for themselves, saying no, avoiding uncomfortable conversations. Even before finishing the book I was able to put techniques into practice. I plan on listening to it again to ensure everything sticks.

If it would be 100 stars rating review, I would give 100.

Do you remember a book ‘No more Mr nice guy’? I hate hate that book. After reading it, I felt that I am more screw up, then before that book. I did not remember any tool, just how fucked up nice people are. (Not author, he was perfect) So, I was kind of sceptic, before I start to read ‘Not nice’ But this book is nothing like that. Actually the book is brilliant. It’s guidebook, how to liberate yourself, to finally feel comfortable with yourself, authentic, bold and free. Great explanations about inner mechanisms and mindsets, examples, tools and exercises. If you struggle with stress and expressing yourself. You will find here everything what you need and more. Really good job Mr Aziz.
I know my English is not perfect but I won’t apologize for that ;))

Too Long

What disappointed you about Not Nice?

This audio is long, so long. Dr. Aziz seems to just ramble on and on. I feel the material could be condensed and made more applicable. More content doesn't mean better results. Its really the opposite. More content gives you analysis paralysis. Meaning you never take action because there is just too much to learn, remember, and apply. That's what happened to me. Find something that gets more to the point.

Powerful book helps you get clarity.

I absolutely love this book. It reminded me of an older book called No More Mr. Nice Guy, but better.

This book helped me get a stronger sense of clarity and allowed me to look within myself and uncover my identity. I don't know about you but I often times would think about how my life would be if I was someone else, and even though I'm older now, I still had those same feels.

After reading this I have new found energy and a high level of commitment to myself. Check this book out if you are feeling like you need to reawaken who you are. Being "nice" means being under the blip on a heart monitor. You have so much more to give.

This book has changed my life!

I loved this book. What’s funny is, it is all in the title. By the time you finish this book, you will stop people pleasing, staying silent, and feeling guilty, and start speaking up, saying no, asking boldly, and unapologetically being yourself. Dr. Aziz helps you realize why you do the things you do, shows you why it doesn’t work, and then gives you tips and tricks for a variety of situations to start being “not nice”. Even before finishing the book I started implementing Dr. Aziz’s advice and have already started seeing major results in my own life. It’s powerful stuff with a dash of humor. I will be sharing it with several people I know who are too nice, and I know it will change their lives. Thanks for writing this book Dr. Aziz.

Cultural attitudes get in the way of the message

The concept of this book is good, and some may find some valuable information and advice here. However, the author seems to have some cultural attitudes that conflict with those of us in the West. As a female, I found some of his comments, especially regarding his dating attitudes and later towards his wife, very condescending, even chauvinistic. His comments seem to stem from a male-dominated society where women are seen as less than, and "the weaker sex."

I tried to continue listening, but after awhile these chauvinistic attitudes were just too much. I couldn't keep listening to his condescension and barely contained arrogance. I found it offensive and off-putting, leaving me angry and unable to focus on the message of the book itself.
