Have you ever walked into a room and couldn't remember what you went there for? Have you ever grasped the hand of a potential client and then when the handshake broke, the name seemed to disappear from your memory? Or have you ever left a prospect or an important meeting and as you drove away remembered a key point that you should have shared with them? The problem is NOT with your memory. The problem is with the "Filing System" your brain currently uses to store and retrieve memory items.
It's comforting to imagine that superstars in their fields were just born better equipped than the rest of us. When a co-worker loses 20 pounds, or a friend runs a marathon while completing a huge project at work, we assume they have more grit, more willpower, more innate talent, and above all, more motivation to see their goals through. But that's not at actually true, as popular Inc.com columnist Jeff Haden proves. "Motivation" as we know it is a myth. Motivation isn't the special sauce that we require at the beginning of any major change.
New York Times best-selling author Kevin Kruse presents the remarkable findings of his study of ultraproductive people. Based on survey research and interviews with billionaires, Olympic athletes, straight-A students, and over 200 entrepreneurs - including Mark Cuban, Kevin Harrington, James Altucher, John Lee Dumas, Pat Flynn, Grant Cardone, and Lewis Howes - Kruse answers the question: What are the secrets to extreme productivity?

Starting with pronunciation, you'll learn how to rewire your ears and turn foreign sounds into familiar sounds.
Do you understand who you really are? Or how others really see you? We all know people with a stunning lack of self-awareness - but how often do we consider whether we might have the same problem? Research shows that self-awareness is the meta-skill of the 21st century - the foundation for high performance, smart choices, and lasting relationships. Unfortunately we are remarkably poor judges of ourselves and how we come across, and it's rare to get candid, objective feedback from colleagues, employees, and even friends and family.

Eating is an indispensable human activity. As a result, whether we realize it or not, the drive to obtain food has been a major catalyst across all of history, from prehistoric times to the present. Epicure Jean-Anthelme Brillat-Savarin said it best: "Gastronomy governs the whole life of man."
We hear that we must be passionate about only one thing, that 10,000 hours of hard practice is needed to achieve mastery. But in fact most successful people, including Nobel Prize winners, nurture multiple areas of knowledge and activity that feed their central subject. Whether it's making a perfect soufflé, dancing a tango or lighting a fire, when we take the time to cultivate small and quantifiable areas of expertise, we change everything.

Would you listen to Mind Mapping again? Why?
I had done a bit of mind mapping before, got this book to learn some better ways to mind map. Didn't realize there was so much to this technique. It's not just for note taking and studying as I once thought, but for just about any task or activity. It works with groups as well as this book describes. I don't think one person needs all these uses, but there'll definitely be some that improve the way you do things

If you could sum up Mind Mapping in three words, what would they be?
I thought mind maps were over rated until this book. There is a lot you can do with them. I mean, you can essentially replace linear form of thinking with this method.
Any additional comments?
Be aware, it does take practice or getting use to, which is the challenge of doing anything new in life. Just because it is more useful and helpful doesn't mean you won't need plenty of practice. I recommend practicing on ancillary or non-relevant tasks just to get your mind in the habit of thinking this way...then on the real tasks, it'll be easier to use.

Everyone talks about how our parents and educational system kill our mental ability and creativity. I strongly believe that is true, but in many ways it's necessary as it helps us think and act in ways that is conducive to a functioning society. We can't all be jagged, uneven, abnormal in our thinking and communication, not only would we not understand each other but nothing would get done. At the same time, once we can start acting, behaving, and thinking in a functional way, it is important to connect back to that creative and super imaginative, intelligent self. After listening to this audio, I believe mind mapping is a great way to do that. It can help you connect with your more bright, gifted, talented self, while still being functional.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I didn't realize how many ways mind mapping can be used. I thought it was just for note taking and some brainstorming, but yea, there is a lot and I think Kam does well to cover all the uses, with not perfect, but still really good examples and case studies.
If you are in school, I recommend chapters 3, 4, 5 and 7 for ample advice on taking notes, learning, research, and writing.
Chapters 6, 8, and 12 presents useful ideas for professionals or in a business environment. Chapter 12 is fantastic on group mind mapping that has been effective with my team at work.
For creative people, found chapter 11 on thematic projects interesting…I’m not involved in any creative disciplines, but after reading, made me want to try.
If you’ve got little ones, chapter 16, 17, 18 on mind mapping with children offers some of the best ways to make learning easy and fun for children.
Not all the uses fit my need, but still all around good resource for what you might be trying to manage with mind mapping.

It's a very extensive and thorough book, probably more thorough than any thing I've come across on mind mapping. Some of the advice is a bit of a stretch to use like for lists, but all in all, presents useful ideas.
