Publisher's Summary

Exclusively written for Audible, available only in audio

Sleep is central to every part of our lives, and a good night's sleep begins by putting aside the day's worries. But in today's technology-saturated world, saying goodnight to the day is harder than ever. Allow author Arianna Huffington (Thrive, The Sleep Revolution) to guide you to a peaceful night's slumber as she performs Goodnight Smartphone: a classic tale reborn for the modern age, when the hardest thing to say goodnight to is not the moon but our phones, our email, our social media, our always-on digital selves.

During a visit to Audible to speak about the benefits of sleep, Arianna joked about what a wonderful book Goodnight Moon is and how other childhood classics help transition kids from daytime to sleep time. She posited why there weren't such books for adults. "Goodnight cares of the day, goodnight worries about tomorrow, goodnight laptop!" she exclaimed. Soon after, Goodnight Smartphone was born. Listen as Arianna borrows from the traditions of children's bedtime stories to create this modern age adaptation for adults, and learn more about her daily sleep regimen in her introduction. Exclusively written for Audible, available only in audio. Free until April 16, 2017.

Inspired by children's bedtime classics, this audiobook is a playful and relaxing guide to help you transition from the worries of a stressful day to a good night's sleep, and you can hear it only on Audible.

Narration was really bad but I can see what they were going for with this book. It's free so you can't complain too much, and it might make you tired at night. It's a short poem so it's easy to re-listen. Just don't expect too much.

"this is really weird. I didn't get it at all."

I don't want to list all the horrible and stressful things in my life just before I go to sleep thanks! even if it is to say goodnight to them.

Listened to this when I couldn't get to sleep.. Made me think about the constant stresses we are attached to from our daytime and how devices don't let us switch off at the end of the day. Well narrated.

    "I really don't get it"

it's bizarre. Thank goodness it was free otherwise I would have been asking for a refund.
It is 90% talk about the author and the issues that we face in the modern world as we try and sleep, and then a tiny section on goodnight and that's it.
    Weird.

"What is the point of this?"
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I expected a sort of lecture about the effects on health of sleep disfunction.
Instead I have received a weird good-night story for listeners of undefined age (its neither for children, nor for adults - its just weird).

Has FREE: Goodnight Smartphone put you off other books in this genre?

Which genre was that, once again?

    "Quick Ideas About Sleep"

A short overview of some of the ideas presented in Huffington's recent book The Sleep Revolution with a twist of using the children's book GoodNight Moon as the format. I didn't think it was as awful as some reviews here on Audible made it seem. In fact, it was only 6 minutes long, offered a variety of helpful ideas about getting more sleep and it was free. You can't beat that for a deal. Glad I listened.

    "This was just painful"

When I saw that someone had decided to revisit Goodnight Moon, I figured it was worth a look. This whole digital "board book" is painful and certainly not a book that I would share with the children in my life. It seems oddly preachy for what I would have assumed was a book intended for children. Seriously, even as a FREE book this is a waste of your time. This awkward stream of consciousness seems more like someone is projecting their own stresses onto paper. I almost regret the fact that it is in my Audible library now because I know I will never listen to it again.

they really should have the option to skip over the intro. Doesn't really make for a good night time story when you have to hear the politicized agenda.

"Amusing & Relevant Twist on a Classic Kid's Story"

To me this book is a rather enjoyable modern twist on a classic and beloved bedtime story for me. Truthfully, the first time I listened to this Audible audiobook, I was not expecting to enjoy it at all. The original story has always been dear to my heart so I knew this remake could never be as good. Still I listened with an open mind and found a book that was relevant to listen to. The mentions of Melatonin, stresses of work, weight loss, and more are stuff that I've struggled with so it was nice hearing all this mentioned. My removal of a star was with Ms. Huffington's voice. Honestly I think it would have been better if she just did the introduction and someone else read the book. Some people greatly enjoyed her voice but I just thought it was tolerable. Since she did write the modern version I can she why she wanted to read it.

    "Worth that 6 minutes"

I liked how she listed her routine before going to sleep, and highlighted how important is to forget daily issues to be able to relax well. The poem was a bit odd but cute, and also reminded not to not worry about everything in the bed. I also heard the accent, first was a bit unusual for an audible production, but I did not mind it for this six minutes. I think it made the message come through better, as she shared her own point of view in her own way. (But I have to admit, I’m not sure for longer books I’d like to hear non-native speakers.)

    Any additional comments?

Just not worth the 6 mins. It seemed like half of it was just a Foreword. For me, Arianna Huffington was a bit too monotone. Even with the short length of the story I lost interest quickly. 6 mins is 6 mins so you can either just get through it or skip it.
