Publisher's Summary

A refreshingly practical and honest guide that rewrites the script on ADHD

Peter Shankman is a busy guy - a media entrepreneur who runs several businesses, gives keynote speeches around the world, hosts a popular podcast, runs marathons and Iron Mans, is a licensed skydiver, dabbles in angel investing, and is a loving father to his young daughter.

Simply put, he always seems to have more than 24 hours in a day. How does he do it? Peter attributes his unusually high energy level and extreme productivity to his ADHD.

In Faster Than Normal, Shankman shares his hard-won insights and daily hacks for making ADHD a secret weapon for living a full and deeply satisfying life. Both inspiring and practical, the book presents life rules, best practices, and simple but powerful ways to:

  • Harness your creative energy to generate and execute your ideas
  • Direct your hyperfocus to get things done
  • Identify your pitfalls - and avoid them
  • Streamline your daily routine to eliminate distractions
  • Use apps and other tech innovations to free up your time and energy

Filled with ingenious hacks and supportive self-care advice, this is the positive, practical book the ADHD community has long needed - and is also an invaluable handbook for anyone who's sick of feeling overwhelmed and wants to drive their faster-than-normal brain at maximum speed...without crashing.

What the Critics Say

"Peter is a pioneer, an adventurer, an inventor and a seer. His advice is the best kind of advice. It is advice learned in the trenches, in the arena, on the fields of life." (Edward Hallowell, MD, from the foreword, best-selling author of Driven to Distraction)

"Peter Shankman is living proof that living outside the bell-shaped curve, combined with a drive to succeed, can produce amazing results." (Jordan D. Metzl, MD, author of The Exercise Cure)

"While ADHD may be considered a ‘deficit’ to some, Shankman positions it as an attribute within the context of our immediate future. ADHD is a unique gift of creative synthesis that makes sense only inside of the complex digital networks and hyper-stimulation that now defines us." (Amanda Steinberg, CEO, Worth Financial, and author of Worth It)

"Great read and tips for the ADHD mind."

I liked how it's written in a way to keep even the easily distracted me focused on it. I would recommend this book to anyone that recently got the diagnosis or wants to hear about the positive sides of ADHD. I think it's a little on the light side but it references other books to read after to get deeper into the subject. Basically, the perfect gift from a parent to give their ADHD kid, it will give them hope that things can and will be better if they focus on the pros and minimise the cons.

"Chock full of unhelpful personal anecdotes..."

... and tired jokes about how quirky it is to have ADHD. Worth a purchase if you want to know the author's top 3 social media apps (Facebook, Instagram and Twitter).

To quote the author, "One of the beauties of this book is that it's also for everyone, not just those with ADHD. Those without it, are going to learn just as much, if not more, from the tips, tricks, and hacks that I lay down here, trust me, you'll get three hours of your day back in your life, just for starters."

"So the first rule here is this: you're never allowed to say 'diagnosed with ADHD' again, because ADHD is not a negative."

And don't forget, "everything happens for a reason."

"Hit the nail on the head!!!"

Wow! This book was so amazing. The material was right on point and described many of the challenges and opportunities I have faced throughout my life. What’s more it has helped me to no longer be ashamed of my GIFT, but to realize it for what it is and use it to my advantage. There’s definitely still work to do, but Peter, thanks for starting me out on the right path for my bright future.

"Best Audiobook Read - Hands Down! "

Peter Shankman: Thank you! I finished this in less than 24 hours and can’t wait to relisten. Being 32 and just finding out that ADHD has been the answer to soooo many baffling questions and pains in my life has been the best thing to ever happen to me and I’ve digested countless books (actually about 6 so far :) in an attempt to figure out “what now”. My therapist has been awesome, but I needed more info - FASTER and you have given me exactly what I needed. I feel understood, self-assured and prepared to test drive this new me and I owe it to you between this book and your podcast! Keep up the amazing work! P.S. your narration is A1 - couldn’t have been more fluid and personable and the tempo was perfect for me as I usually have to speed up 1.5-2 times in other audiobooks. Thanks so much!
