Editor reviews

The writings of 8th-century scholar Shantideva have long been classic texts for people seeking applicable ways to incorporate Buddhism into their daily lives. David Michie uses examples from his own life to make Shantideva's works more accessible to the listener, who can use Enlightenment to Go as a tool to combat the stresses of modern life. Nicholas Bell helps to make Michie's guidance warm and easy-to-follow with a calm and reassuring tone. His relaxed demeanor soothes the listener, who soon begins to realize that Shantideva's teachings are as relevant today as they were centuries ago.

Summary

For the past thirty years the Dalai Lama has consistently recommended Shantideva’s A Guide to the Bodhisattva’s Way of Life as essential reading for those interested in applying Buddhist philosophy to daily life. In Enlightenment to Go, David Michie provides a lively and accessible guide to ‘the best of’ Shantideva. Sharing his enthusiasm for Shantideva’s radical insights, life-changing psychological tools and transcendent wisdom, he draws on a wide variety of scientific sources – from mindfulness training to cognitive behaviour therapy, from neuropsychology to quantum physics – to show how Shantideva’s Guide is as relevant as ever.

Whether you are a newcomer to Buddhism or a seasoned practitioner, Enlightenment to Go offers a glimpse of a radiantly different reality – and a beautiful illumination of why the Dalai Lama recommends Shantideva’s Guide above all others.

Very informative and educational

All you need to know about becoming buddist or just interested in learning about the Buddist way of life. A loylt more informative than I expected and good to have a note book and pen handy when listening too to make notes. That's the only thing about Audible books I do not like as cannot just flick back through the pages. Would highly recommend this book.

An insightful revelation

Whilst I struggled to initially grasp some of the concepts described in this book. I did enjoy delving in to the world of enlightenment. Occasionally hard going but more frequently profound, honest and inspiring. One note to consider - with the audible version the chapters referred to in the book don’t match with the chapter numbering in the app

Wonderful book,

I have read all David Michie's books and they are all marvellous. As usual this one is clear and sensitive with the usual David Michie sense of humour scattered around.

Life changing

David Michie is fast becoming my favourite audible author! After reading Buddhism for Busy People and now this, I’m encouraged and inspired to live my life by Buddhism in as many ways as I can. I just love his real life, honest take and interpretation on the Dharma and his various teachers and Lamas. I high recommend if you want to discover more about Buddhism and it’s principal and practical applications to your life to help make you happier overall.

amazing book

I feel I need to listen again! So much amazing insight, the book took me on a real inner journey with lots of self-reflection. Highly recommend for a more in depth but accessible introduction to Buddhist perception.
