Publisher's Summary

Most of us have no problems identifying goals we want to accomplish. It's putting these plans into action that is difficult.

Sometimes we lack discipline or motivation. However, there's another reason why you might struggle to make changes in your life - you have low self-efficacy.

What is self-efficacy? What are the main four sources of it? How can you develop more confidence in your abilities?

These are some of the questions I'll answer in this short book. The advice you're about to read is based both on scientific research and my personal experience. I will share fundamental knowledge that will help you build more confidence in your abilities and reach your goals.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

It's a short book and I knew already some of the points discussed, but it's a useful short book.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of John Gagnepain?

That was the weakest point for me. I found the narrator terribly boring (sorry).

    "Terribly disappointing "

While the author understands the material well enough, and the performer reads the book quite well, two things made it impossible for me to complete (or to benefit from) this recording. 1) The author's constant use of the term "efficacy" instead of the word "confidence" kept knocking me out of the flow of the book. (Imagine buying a book about birds. You start to read the book and discover almost no mention of "birds" anywhere in the book. Instead the book is filled with references to "avian creatures". That's roughly what the author has done to this book on self confidence...) 2) Several places in the narrative, the author refers to "her" lack of self efficacy. I found it incongruous that the author felt compelled to assign a female pronoun to a negative condition that effects both genders. - - Please note that I've listened to other recordings by this author/reader team and have enjoyed them, but this particular book needs a massive revision/cleanup before I'd recommend it to anyone!

"Some Good Advice, but Not Terribly Interesting..."
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Some good info in a very quick read, but there are better guides out there. I found a lot of the information here to be either extremely obvious ("don't give up") or dragged out and repeated too much.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Confidence?

I liked that he mentioned physiological effects of nervousness are interpreted differently by confident and anxious people.

How could the performance have been better?

Found the voice to be a bit droning and difficult to listen to...There were also a few instances in which he emphasized words strangely and I found this distracting.

Did Confidence inspire you to do anything?

Some of the better advice was included in the social aspects of confidence-building. Surround yourself with people that persevere in areas that would make you give up.

    Any additional comments?

If I had a dollar for every time this books says "self efficacy".....
My roommate overheard around 10 minutes of this book and commented that he was annoyed by this as well.

    "Start small, achieve big!"

After listening this book, the way I see the problems or initiatives changed. Having bigger is not wrong, but aiming to achieve instantly is wrong. This teaches the way to improve self efficacy and win constructively achieving small wins to compile bigger one. Worth going through this book.

I have taken key words and applied them to my own life.

Rated this a four: I would recommend it to youth and those who are beginning their journey as it is very accessible and gets down to some basics in a concise format. (5 stars) There is less new here for those who are along the way but even they may pick up a new tip or perspective.

    "Satisfying first time experience"

This is the first book I listen too and loved it! The book itself i liked it..maybe it keep repeating the same keypoints over and over to the point that I thought the chapter was repeating but then I realized it helped in drilling the idea by just hearing the book one time instead of having to re hear it over and over to get those keypoints! And for the content i really liked it! Maybe I knew some of the points discuseed but Is not the same thinking you know something instead of being told that what you think is actually real. Help boosting my confidence! (Which was the point)
The voice of narrator..i liked it too! Pleasant to hear!
In conclusion, i'll start my next book now :)

Would you listen to Confidence again? Why?

Yes It had useful content and books like this you need to lessen to at least twice to get the most out of it.

What did you like best about this story?

It gets to the point fast and then moves on to the next point.

What does John Gagnepain bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

he keeps it moving at a good pace and he has a confident voice which it something this book needs for the full effect after all if you need this book you might not give it the energy it deserves and you need.

What did you learn from Confidence that you would use in your daily life?

for one thing I have already downloaded the soft ware he talks about in one of the chapters.

    Any additional comments?

This is by no mean the best book on the subject but it is a good place to start it has a lot of content for as short as it is.
