simple to understand!

I got this book because my husband was having problems with the book his therapist recommended. I looked through the book and it put together very well, he will not become overloaded with information but still gain insight.
It is great for an untrained person who is trying to understand themselves.

5 stars!!!!!!!

A great book of the basics that compose CBT. Great for anyone who may have some anxiety about being in a group and may want to use this book as a beginning tool on their own. Also useful for me to use basic skills in the book with the individuals I serve daily.

Really enjoyed it.

Really enjoyed it. It takes you on a personal trip to help you deal with your level of anxiety and / or depression. Gives you things to work on and think about. I have already applied some of the techniques to personal thinking. Recommend this to anyone who might be dealing with these issues

Good Material, Bad Audiobook

This book does not lend itself to being an Audiobook. If you space out for a second, you can find yourself lost for the next 5-10 minutes. The author does not repeat what he's talking about, so you have to pay careful attention.

I'm familiar with DBT and other common therapeutic techniques, so I didn't find anything new in this book. The book would have far more value as a reference text where you can page your way to a specific chapter for review.

Sam Slydell has a nice voice, but the material droned on making hard to stay focused.

Very Practical

I enjoy this book because it offers tools for self help, alongside understanding. I am still going back to listen, write things down and work on the exercises!

social today

This book i it gives you a good scientific background on how our minds work and why they work that way, in addition to referencing the history of mindfulness and the way it's part of our society today.

learned a lot

I really enjoyed the approach this book takes. It encourages you to go through slowly, one chapter per week, doing the exercises and really thinking about how you feel and why you feel that way. The book encourages you to change aspects of your thinking and your behavior by suggesting alternative ways of being. A lot of the material proved to be an eye opener for me. It is essential that the reader takes the time to write down their thoughts as requested throughout the book. Take the time to review these notes as you progress through the book, you will learn a lot

stress relief guide

This is a straight forward, easy to understand CBT book. It explains what you are doing every step of the way, and is really very helpful. I loses a star because the 7 weeks is only really possible if you used this book for about an hour each day. This is still a very good book, and while I'm far from finished with it, I've already begun to experience some relief.

excellent book

I work in the mental health field and have had training on CBT and seen the results of this type of therapy. I found the book to be very easy to read and understandable. If a person cannot (or will not) attend therapy in person this seems like the next best thing, especially if the depression and/or anxiety is not already too debilitating. Some people will need the professional help. If someone you love would benefit from CBT then you should read this book as well. You will be better able to support this person if you understand the process, and you may find that you yourself will benefit from the skills learned. This is a workbook with room for you to enter information and thoughts. This will allow you to see growth and change on your journey to “getting your life back”. I really enjoyed this book but that might be because I already know that it can be a success story!

great purchase

Very pleased with this purchase! I haven't been able to go to a therapist in quite some time but I've already received more from this book in two weeks than I have from probably ALL of my past therapists combined. Well, one specific therapist excluded, but he was amazing! (DBT therapist)

Another Ryan James Winner

I don’t know who this guy is but his books are great. The research is well done but you won’t find a long boring explanation of the topic. This book, like his others, is geared strictly towards practices - specific easy things people can do to work on specific issues they want to address. For instance, this book addresses overcoming phobias, dealing with panic attacks and other subjects. Instead of long explanations, you get what you need - specific step by step practices to implement and improve your life and overcome issues you may face.

Best book ever!!!

It would enable you to view your automatic thoughts from a different perspective, basically giving you more insight into them. The thing is, negative and uncomfortable situations aren't things we can simply walk away from-but knowing how to deal with them properly is a good start.
