Summary

Learn How to Break Bad Habits and Build Powerful, Positive Routines

Do you: Often snack on junk food, watch too much TV, spend too much money, or binge eat? Wish you could stop smoking or drinking excessively? Have a small (but annoying) habit you'd like to break? We all have a specific bad habit we'd like to break. Odds are you've tried in the past, and maybe you were successful for a few days. Then something unexpected came up where you slipped for a day or two. One mistake snowballs into a series of setbacks. Eventually you give up on the idea of making a habit change simply because it's too difficult to do. The interesting thing? We've all experienced this pattern at some point in our lives. Fortunately there's a quick fix: Make a plan for breaking that habit, and follow it on a daily basis.

Right now: Pick a bad habit, make a plan, and start today! It doesn't matter if you've failed with your habit efforts in the past. It doesn't mean you're lazy or weak willed. It means you didn't have the right tools for making a lasting habit change. What you need is a strategy for identifying your worst habits and learning how to overcome them. That solution is an audiobook called: Bad Habits No More: 25 Steps to Break ANY Bad Habit. With this book, you will learn:

  • Why "Willpower" Is a Dangerous Word for Changing Routines
  • The One Thing People Get Wrong with Building Habits (Step #2)
  • A Three-Step Process for Identifying the "Why" Behind Your Bad Habit (Step #9)
  • Why Cold-Turkey Solutions Rarely Work (Step #6)
  • How Certain Locations Can Short-Curcuit Your Efforts (Step #19)
  • The "What-The-Hell Effect" and How it Causes Binge Behaviors (Step #21)
  • How a 30-Day Challenge Is the First Step to Permanent Habit Change (Step #3)
  • The Best Tools & Apps to Track Your Progress

Confession: I ordered this audiobook by mistake

If you could sum up Bad Habits No More in three words, what would they be?

This book by S.J. Scott is permanently free on Kindle, and Steve Scott uses it as a lead magnet for his list of readers. When I ordered, I mistakenly accepted to order the audiobook version as well, which was inexpensive (less than 3 USD.) I should note that this is no reflection on the author. As it was inexpensive, I left the charge and downloaded the audiobook on my phone (my first Audible book!)

Though S.J. Scott has a very good reputation for the quailty of his books, I must say that expected no more than another book on habits, maybe a collection of blog articles or common advice freely available on the web. Boy, was I wrong!

This is a very well-researched book, full of important infornation about habits taken from credible sources (many of which I had previously read.) It is chock full of practical advise and credible examples, and it made me reconsider many of my previous approaches to curbing my bad habits.

And, most importantly, it is extremely well-written and edited. A quality asset indeed.

What about Greg Zarcone’s performance did you like?

The quality of the narrator is impressive. In fact, I enjoyed it so much that I finished the book on audio, and played it more than once.

What insight do you think you’ll apply from Bad Habits No More?

From this book, I learned that a structured but simple approach is key to changing habits, and that lasting behavioral change is possible if approached realistically.

Short and To The Point

A well presented model for behavior modification.
Focused on actions, not theory.
Worth the $ and the time.

Seriously superficial book with hardly any insight

Really poor writing, examples and superficial advice on how to break a habit. The only good piece of advice came from his reference to another author's book, Charles Duhigg - The Power Of Habit. Rather just buy that book.

Great content, wee organized for application.

This book is not too long, yet chock full of 'cream of the crop' ideas that are organized in a way that make it easier for me to apply than with other books I have listened to. It's also very encouraging, and when I listen to some of it daily, it becomes a kind of coach, or reinforcement. I have found it very helpful and plan to continue to implement its many ideas gradually into my day.

Simple and informative

Most books I read about habits are either full of fluff or too information heavy. This book is simple and informative and holds my attention. If you like Mini Habits by Stephen Guise, you'll like this book because it's relatable and has straightforward concepts
