Summary

The Sages asked, “Who is mighty?” and answered, “Those who can control their own emotions and make of an enemy a friend.”

In the best-selling book The Go-Giver, Bob Burg and John David Mann revolutionized the way we think about success via one very simple lesson: “Shifting one’s focus from getting to giving (constantly and consistently providing value to others) is both very fulfilling and the most profitable way to do business.

Now Burg is back with a new book, offering deeper insight into what it means to be truly influential and providing powerful strategies for mastering the art of winning people over.

Faced with the task of persuading someone to do what we want, most of us expect, and often encounter, resistance. We see the other person as an adversary and often resort to coercion or manipulation in order to get our way. But while this approach might at times bring us short-term results, it leaves people with a bad feeling about themselves and about us. At that point, our relationship with the person is weakened and our influence dramatically decreased.

There is a better way. Drawing on his own experiences and the stories of other influential people, Burg offers five simple principles of what he calls Ultimate Influence - the ability to win people to your side in a way that leaves everyone feeling great about the outcome.

Bob Burg is a master of relationships

I highly recommend Adversaries Into Allies, and anything else produced by Bob Burg. Mr. Burg is a master of relationships. Having met him once at a very large conference where he was sharing "The Go Giver," I wasn't surprised when he was as warm and friendly as he seems in his books. What really moved me to want to be mentored by him through his writing was when, quite some time later, he took a personal interest in me (and also my father) in some online discussions.

Adversaries Into Allies is not theory drummed up for a book, but the very real relationship principles Bob (and thanks to him, I) live and succeed by. Thank you, Bob!

Useful Concepts

The author outlines frames of mind that help us look for ways to reframe our interactions into win-win situations. Certainly worth trying in our day to day interactions.

Best book I've purchased on Audible

I had this on my wish list for a year before finally purchasing. It was the best book I've listened to and I wish I had purchased it sooner. Nothing but incredibly valuable strategies and perspective about difficult communication. Thank you Bob Burg for putting this together!

loved it

the only thing that I can say is that the last chapter really seemed to suggest being a serious person with integrity all the time. having fun and being silly here and there shouldnt derail a persons level of influence.
