Summary

In this eloquent account of her current struggle with physical pain, Joni Eareckson Tada offers her perspective on divine healing, God’s purposes, and what it means to live with joy. Over four decades ago, a diving accident left Joni a quadriplegic. Today, she faces a new battle: unrelenting pain. The ongoing urgency of this season in her life has caused Joni to return to foundational questions about suffering and God’s will.

A Place of Healing is not an ivory tower treatise on suffering. Its an intimate look into the life of a mature woman of God. Whether readers are enduring physical pain, financial loss, or relational grief, Joni invites them to process their suffering with her. Together, they will navigate the distance between God’s magnificent yes and heartbreaking no and find new hope for thriving in between.

a balm for the soul

This book has been like a healing balm for my soul. I've been dealing with cancer fatigue and distressed about all I cannot do. Joni always delivers.

Just what I needed right now.

I had prayed and God had led me to this book. Thank You Jesus. I am encouraged in my suffering. My faith is intact and I know one day soon, God will use my story for His glory. So my journey continues.....

Balanced, sensible and hopeful

Joni believes in a God who can and does heal, but also recognises that it might not always be God's plan for everyone at all times. Despite her past and present health problems, she remains thankful, acknowledging that God sometimes uses people's suffering for His glory. I was also grateful for her attitude towards the relationship between sickness and sin - there is no condemnation here.

Awesome and awe inspiring. Such a helpful book and just so wonderful to have it read by Joni herself.

Excellent book, really enjoyed it!

Would you consider the audio edition of A Place of Healing to be better than the print version?

Yes I would. I purchased both the audio edition and the print edition and this audio edition was excellent, very moving and extremely well read by Joni. I have several audio books of which I struggle to listen to, but I went through this in a couple of days and that is both due to the content which I thoroughly enjoyed, very moving but also because it was read by Joni and so she was speaking from her experience right from the heart. At times I felt very emotional.

What other book might you compare A Place of Healing to, and why?

Don't have any comparisons. Joni's book was exceptional.

What about Joni Eareckson Tada’s performance did you like?

Her clarity, very natural, it was real, straight from the heart.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes if I had the time.

Any additional comments?

Go get it, brilliant book.

An Encouraging Listen

What a joy this audio is! I have thoroughly enjoyed listening to Joni talk about her life in such a positive way. This is such a practical book to help you to carry on with your life in spite of your circumstances, something I think Joni does extremely well.

What I liked about it most, is that she is speaking from experience, and not giving pat answers to questions she doesn?t know how to answer. I?ve enjoyed hearing her whole story, from when she had the accident over 40 years ago, to how she fights to keep focused on God everyday. She is incredibly honest about how she feels each day, dealing with chronic pain, and how she chooses to give God the glory. She also tells you how you can do the same in your own life, whatever you are going through.

The stories about the disabled people around the world she has visited and brought wheelchairs to, through her charity ?Wheels For The World?, are so encouraging too.

Joni has a beautiful voice whether reading or singing during this audio, which really does make it a pleasure to listen to.
