About this listen

A young woman’s body is left in a metal container in a remote location. The killer is careful to position her under a camera that links to his smartphone. He likes to look back at his work. He is watching her. But she isn't dead. So he will return to finish the job. He can barely contain his excitement at the thought of getting to do it all over again. But he must be careful. He cannot rush. Rushing makes you careless ... Detective Maddie Ives is new to the area. She is handed a missing person report: a young woman with a drink problem who’s been reported missing 15 times. It looks like a waste of time. But DS Ives has a bad feeling about the woman’s disappearance. DI Harry Blaker is called to a hit and run of an elderly man left to die on a quiet country road. There is no motive and it looks like a tragic accident. But he’s been working Major Crime long enough to know that something isn’t quite right. The two officers find their investigations intertwine and they will need to work together. But they must work fast. Time is running out for the woman in the container. And the killer has already identified his next target.©2018 Charlie Gallagher. Too much unnecessary detail in the action. The reader made it hard work to listen to.
Good story but not very well constructed.

Not bad but the reader spoilt it for me

Strong, funny protagonist in Maddie Ives and her grumpy foil in Harry the loner DI. A terrifying serial killer and a gripping hunt for him before he kills again. And in among it all the truth about caring for someone with dementia and recovering from alcohol addiction. It’s laugh out loud funny at times and at others it is deeply touching and heartbreakingly sad. I can’t recommend it highly enough. As a new series it takes a few chapters for the reader to ‘get into’ but soon I felt like I was sitting with old friends. I’m now off to listen to the next in the series! I already have the first three! Thank you Charlie!

A terrific start to my new favourite crime series!

This is the 1st audio book I've listened to from this author and I enjoyed it immensely. There is plenty of action and suspense mixed in with a smattering of emotion. The narrator was very good, keeping the flow going right through.

Well written and read.

Narrator didn’t make much difference between some of the characters and the dialogue was hard to follow on occasion.
Not sure why Kent has been renamed Lennickshire and Folkestone has become Langthorn, the rest of the county and even descriptions of different areas of Canterbury are accurate.

Slightly uneven but enjoyable
