Summary

All Charlie Payne wants is to lead a normal life and to be a good mom. But Charlie's not exactly normal. She's from a long line of witches, and she can see the dead.

Susan Tate has inherited a beautiful, old southern mansion on the coast. Unfortunately, the property came with a million necessary repairs. And ghosts.

When Charlie meets Susan, the woman is desperate for help. Taking on a spirit who doesn't want to see the light can be dangerous, but ignoring it?

Ignoring the dead can get you killed.

This was a pleasant surprise. The characters are well developed and engaging. The mystery is well plotted and interesting. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to the next book in this series.

Waste of a credit and my time

Narration is truely awful! I could not get past the terrible narration and quit listening half way through 3rd chapter. Story might be good but I just could not tell.

Horrible narration

I’m grateful so many readers gave this book a positive review because without them, I never would have finished listening. The narration is a huge impedance to hanging in there with this book. The narrator emphasizes words that don’t require emphasis, like a grade school student reading aloud for the first time. I often felt like it was a satirical impression of a narrator. The flow was choppy, like when you are reading aloud and have to turn the page, but the pages stick together so it takes too long. And I cannot say whether or not the accent is genuine, but it is definitely annoying.

Great book!!!

This is a new author to me. I love her work. I could not stop reading as it had my attention from the first page. The lady that narrates this book is amazing as well. I can't wait to read more of her work.

Sweet, Simple, Uncomplicated Ghost STory

I allowed myself to be misled by all of the rave reviews for this series. The readers apparently enjoy cozy ghost stories without any complexity or bite. The characters are likeable, the story predictable, and ghostliness not even slightly unnerving. I don't like to say unkind things about such a sweet story, but this is not a thinking person's supernatural tale.

For a younger audience

This book served my primary purpose of something interesting enough to listen to on my drive to work. It has a pretty good plot line. The writing is geared towards a younger reader and you might find yourself irritated with the juvenile plot twists. I got it as an Audible add-on from Prime reading so I wasn't upset. I don't think it would be worth a credit.

Just what I was looking for

A ghost story, murder mystery, and a few witches for good measure. I really enjoyed this book. About to purchase number two. I hope there are more to come!

Good book and Good narrator

I do not usually like women's narrators but Melissa Bentley does an amazing job! I really liked the book as well. I thought the characters were well written and grew as the plot developed. Well, except for the ex-husband. He's just emotionally stunted. I recommend this book.
