Summary

"'There will be three tasks, spaced throughout the school year, and they will test the champions in many different ways...their magical prowess - their daring - their powers of deduction - and, of course, their ability to cope with danger.'"

The Triwizard Tournament is to be held at Hogwarts. Only wizards who are over seventeen are allowed to enter - but that doesn't stop Harry dreaming that he will win the competition. Then at Hallowe'en, when the Goblet of Fire makes its selection, Harry is amazed to find his name is one of those that the magical cup picks out. He will face death-defying tasks, dragons, and dark wizards, but with the help of his best friends, Ron and Hermione, he might just make it through - alive!

Having now become classics of our time, the Harry Potter audiobooks never fail to bring comfort and escapism to listeners of all ages. With its message of hope, belonging and the enduring power of truth and love, the story of the Boy Who Lived continues to delight generations of new listeners.

Still so good

I've read and listened and watched this story so many times, but every time when Harry is recounting the events in the graveyard and when Mrs Weasley is comforting him, these scenes always make me cry. They are so well written, JK has done an amazing job of portraying how Harry was feeling without getting maudlin, really putting you in the situation.

This story is when the real darkness starts, the fear that everyone feels about Voldemort, and a glimpse of the determination to deal with what's to come.

Dramatic Storyline, a Real Tear Jerker

JK Rowling turns up the pace as the story of the return of the Dark Lord continues. Harry Potter faces some of his most difficult challenges yet.

Excellent.

Would you consider the audio edition of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Book 4 to be better than the print version?

I've read the first 3 books in print and loved them, but got through the first 100 or so pages of the print version of the Goblet of Fire and lost interest. The audio version helped me pick up where I left off.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I didn't have a particularly favourite character. JK Rowling paints them all very well and gives them their own unique personality.

Which character – as performed by Stephen Fry – was your favourite?

I loved Fry's performance of Hagrid. After being used to watching the films so many times, the narrated version doesn't take any magic away and I still picture Robbie Coltraine as Hagrid, even though Stephen Fry is portraying him. I'm disappointed that Prof. Maconigall is not portrayed with a Scottish accent in the audiobook - though there are references to her being Scottish. Having said that, I can't think of anyone better to read these books than Fry.He plays all the characters extremely well.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I can't remember if it was this book or the subsequent ones but there was a flashback to Snape's youth where as a youngster he was bullied by James Potter (Harry's father). As a result I had very little sympathy for James Potter being killed off.

Any additional comments?

I've listened to the rest of the books in order and I'm now on to The Deathly Hallows. I've enjoyed them very much. All the characters are portrayed very well and the parts brilliantly acted by Fry. Shame the same didn't happen in the films. The younger actors in the films were terrible and obviously only got the parts because their parents were in the business.
