The kingdom of Cornucopia was once the happiest in the world. It had plenty of gold, a king with the finest moustache you could possibly imagine, and butchers, bakers, and cheesemongers whose exquisite foods made a person dance with delight when they ate them. Everything was perfect - except for the misty Marshlands to the north, which, according to legend, were home to the monstrous Ickabog. Anyone sensible knew that the Ickabog was just a myth to scare children into behaving. But the funny thing about myths is that sometimes they take on a life of their own.

Story
Look, I didn't want to be a half-blood. I never asked to be the son of a Greek God. I was just a normal kid, going to school, playing basketball, skateboarding. The usual. Until I accidentally vaporized my maths teacher. That's when things started really going wrong. Now I spend my time fighting with swords, battling monsters with my friends, and generally trying to stay alive. This is the one where Zeus, God of the Sky, thinks I've stolen his lightning bolt - and making Zeus angry is a very bad idea.

Summary
"'There will be three tasks, spaced throughout the school year, and they will test the champions in many different ways...their magical prowess - their daring - their powers of deduction - and, of course, their ability to cope with danger.'"
The Triwizard Tournament is to be held at Hogwarts. Only wizards who are over seventeen are allowed to enter - but that doesn't stop Harry dreaming that he will win the competition. Then at Hallowe'en, when the Goblet of Fire makes its selection, Harry is amazed to find his name is one of those that the magical cup picks out. He will face death-defying tasks, dragons, and dark wizards, but with the help of his best friends, Ron and Hermione, he might just make it through - alive!
Theme music composed by James Hannigan.

Seriously Good Potter!
This is the book where I think JK Rowling really decided to get a bit more serious. If the previous book had a slightly harder edge this took that further and added more depth and sophistication. While the opening books were genuinely full of child-like joy and adventure this one upped the ante considerably. Of course this one is still full of the by now expected warm humour and interplay between the characters plus the clever placing of traditional fantasy ideas of wizardry into the modern world. This is still about schoolchildren growing up and their relationships with each other and their teachers as well as all the sorcery. The humanity of the books and the way they reflect some of the serious, and also some of the less serious issues within our modern societies remains and is developed still further.
The story does take its time in building to a climactic battle and includes a few quite unexpected twists, not much is quite as it seems at Hogwarts! The tri-wizard cup is a major feature and includes some of the most exciting scenes in the Harry Potter series particularly I thought the second task which takes place under water.
For those who have previously only come to Harry Potter via the films then this audiobook will be a huge treat. The films were excellent but there is so much more to discover in this volume. Notable parts that were missing from the film include the Quidditch World Cup Final match, Hermione’s civil rights campaign and lots of trademark Rowling character interactions which explain them and what they do in much greater depth. They do make the story considerably longer but it never drags as a result! This is of course in part due to the excellence of Mr Fry. I will admit that I can’t help thinking about the deliciously evil Alan Rickman delivering Severus Snape’s sardonic malevolence but in truth Stephen Fry carries the stories as beautifully as I can imagine a single narrator being capable of.
Once again, in summary, a quite delightful use of a credit!

As always with this series, Stephen Fry is a fantastic narrator. There are a few moments where the character voices blend but given the sheer number of characters in this book this is hardly surprising. Amazing story,

Still so good
I've read and listened and watched this story so many times, but every time when Harry is recounting the events in the graveyard and when Mrs Weasley is comforting him, these scenes always make me cry. They are so well written, JK has done an amazing job of portraying how Harry was feeling without getting maudlin, really putting you in the situation. This story is when the real darkness starts, the fear that everyone feels about Voldemort, and a glimpse of the determination to deal with what's to come.

Well written. Well read
Much more exciting than the previous novel, but also more sinister. Fry does an excellent job reading this and manages to bring suspense and anticipation and a whole host of emotions felt by various characters really come through. Fry also manages to provide a myriad of voices to bring his telling to life - everything from the Beaubaton and Durmstrang students to Death Eaters and house elves, all have their own unique voice in this telling. Definitely the best so far

All wonderful until skipping 10 hours in...
What made the experience of listening to Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Book 4 the most enjoyable?
I love these books and was so excited to see them on Audible, and cannot fault the narration, story at all. My review is to warn people and perhaps audible of the skipping of the track during the first task. Between 10:03:48 for a few minutes. I have deleted and redownloaded but this still occurs. Disappointing and distracting, but at least it is not too long. I am yet to listen if this reoccurs in the rest of the book.
