Book 1 of this trilogy focuses on the Halloween Holiday.
Esme is the daughter forced to be the Parent, and her mother is the child in their relationship, she's bullied at school, helps run the family animal sanctuary and is adulting at much too young an age and when a father son duo move into her small town, she feels like she may finally have made a friend. Without giving too much away I have to say Loved this book. The story pulls in you in from the start, and makes you feel for Esme, and her all in her life. I've been listening to this with my 13 year old neice and its very enjoyable.
Narration by AJ Leavitt is very good, we weil definitely be checking out the last 2 books in the series.
