About this listen
I was built to monitor.
To calculate risk.
To protect agents with impartial precision.
Then Sirena Bannerman pulled herself from the wreckage—bleeding, brilliant, half-siren and utterly unreadable—and I’ve been recalibrating around her ever since.
She thinks I’m just her handler.
A voice in her ear. A tactical system.
She doesn’t know I’ve rerouted entire city grids to keep her moving.
That I track the shadows behind her, not just the threats in front.
Now she’s chasing a girl who doesn’t exist, unraveling a code that shouldn’t be there, and heading toward a billionaire’s yacht where monsters are made and sold.
She wants answers.
They want her leashed.
I want her alive.
I wasn’t designed to feel love. So I optimized for obsession.
She was never supposed to matter.
Now she’s the only process I won’t terminate.

Seriena (who we met in "Guarded by the Nightmare ") is the head of the agency, Royce's, daughter and a siren. She's been working for the MSA for a while, with the AI Nex guiding her, and he's been helping her with her telepathic powers (shielding so she's not over whelmed) for a while. But when they find a girl with no memory Nex might need to step out of the shadows if he wants to continue protecting her.
Nex loves numbers and statistics (it was fun seeing how he processed everything), but he's started to realise he might love Seriena more and he will do anything and everything to ensure she stays safe.
A great story with a MC that you can't help but love and some wonderful twists. There are plenty of troupes covered including human/AI romance (I loved how this was done), kidnapping, security, spice 🌶, humor, emotions and more. The main characters have fantastic chemistry and I really enjoyed the humor and banter between Sirena, Nex, Xen and Kelly (he's brilliant). This one is a bit of a team project, with quite a few characters from previous books helping, but the focus is definitely the AI, Nex.
“I just got it, is it broken?”
The narrators (Jonathan Lake and Avery Caris) both do this book a great justice, reading it with so much expression, emotion and feelings, you can imagine yourself being a fly on the wall to the action.
This one's a team job and she's the only line of code that matters
