Summary

Thirteen-year-old David Eliot was a disappointment to his parents. But to be sent to Groosham Grange? Hidden away on a lonely island, Groosham Grange is a school that is unknown to the outside world. Pupils are forced to sign their names in blood. An English teacher is held together entirely with bandages. A soccer ball is made of ... well, you'd rather not know.

What is the chilling secret hidden behind the headmaster's door? And why are students disappearing in the middle of the night? Suddenly, David has a lot more to worry about than pleasing his parents – like survival!

"Amazing humorous writing"

Mr Anthony Horowitz is an amazing author and story teller, his stories are mainly based on thrill, and sarcasm is included to emphasize the story. I would highly recommend my favorite author and his diamond brothers series.

Amazing book with a terrorfying twist

I loved this book with its dark secrets and dangerous twists to this terrorfying tale.
I would defiantly recommend this book to enyone with an unquenchable thurst for thriller and horror filled stories. Anthony Horowitz has out done him self yet again with this blood curdling story.

Sorry, but the audio... 😩

This is a children's story, ideal for around age 10. I bought the audible and Kindle version to support my son in school and I listened to the audio version while working so that I would be able to help my son with his school work.

I listen to a lot of audio books while working at home.

I also listen to children read and work in a school.

The book is ok, my son has been enjoying it, but on listening to the audio version I found myself wanting to hold up a hand and say, please slow down, as I would with a gabbaling child.

At every intense or 'exciting' point in the book the reading speed became faster and faster to the point that the punctuation was ignored, the narrator became breathless and the best parts were rushed over so that a child would not be able to take it in.

I also downloaded the Kindle version of this book so my son could read and listen simultaneously. This helps him to feel more independent as he has dyslexia and will frequently misread words. Usually the Kindle version will light up the words as the narrator speaks them, the extreme speed that the narrator speaks in this book means that the Kindle version cannot keep up.

I don't usually put comments like this as most of the time I absolutely love the audio books that I download, but I am really disappointed at how this one has been recorded. It serves the purpose of giving me the knowledge of what happened in the book, but it was not a good listen and my son having listened to a chapter struggled to answer the questions about it due to the gabbaling. It is sadly a children's book that is not really child suitable.
