Summary

Kivu, an orphaned mountain gorilla, rules Silverback Valley in the extraordinary African rainforest. Under his watchful protection, the animals are kept safe, but then a storm brings a fierce crocodile who threatens the survival of everyone. Kivu decides to leave in search of a new life. He is not completely alone as the gentle Okapi goes with him, for like Kivu, she is the last of her kind.

Their epic journey takes them across the rainforest to the top of a volcano where they encounter a dangerous troop of baboons, intent on destroying the forest. To fulfill his destiny, Kivu must confront the baboons but also his old enemy, the crocodile.

Enjoyed as a bedtime story

Both my children age 10 & 12 enjoyed this as a bedtime story. It was relaxing to listen to and read beautifully with all the different character voices. However, they did feel it took awhile for anything to actually happen in the storyline but I find it was great to play over 2 or 3 nights before bed as it is long enough to do so.

Delightful story for young children

For young animal lovers and any child who enjoys a gentle adventure. The animals, good and bad, that the hero encounters are well characterised and the African scenery is vividly drawn. The story is well read with all the animals having easily recognisable and different voices. Young listeners are in a safe pair of hands. Undemanding entertainment for a long car journey perhaps.
