About this listen

Nkechi was a good Nigerian American girl. She did everything right. Went to med school. Made plans. Then life happened. And plans changed. A first-generation coming-of-age journey of love, loss, and growing into adulthood, Good Grief follows Nkechi as she navigates Pennsylvania’s suburbs alongside her childhood crush, her would-be-philosopher brother, and her immigrant parents. Hailed as a "profound dramatic work" by LA Weekly, this hilarious and heartbreaking new play reunites playwright Ngozi Anyanwu and director Awoye Timpo.

I was possibly (most definitely) expecting something a bit more drawn out and angsty but this was such a wonderful surprise. I don't know, it was better than anything I was expecting. The only minus for me was the Nigerian accents of the parents. I am Nigerian myself so, clearly I'm being picky here but it was in and out especially on the mum. Like, even the pronunciation of the name Nkechi was sus from both parents. I would totally recommend though and would happily listen to anything else from the author.

unexpected
