Summary

Emily Johnston is gone. She's been gone for more than a week. She's also the daughter of Harry Starke's one-time boss and nemesis, Chattanooga Police Chief Wesley Johnston. Harry and Chief Johnston haven't seen eye-to-eye in a long time, but when Johnston needs help, he knows there's only one man he can turn to. But Johnston's jurisdiction ends at the city limits and when Emily's body is discovered in a remote part of the county, Harry has to deal with the imperious sheriff, Israel Hands and two incompetent county detectives. So begins an investigation that will take Harry on a wild ride across Signal Mountain, a case that will include a second murder, two cold cases, sex, alternative lifestyles, and deadly danger for Harry and his friends, until...well, as always, there's a twist in the tale.

No Such Thing as Safe Autoerotica Partners!

Would you listen to Gone again? Why?

Yes, I'm a fan of the Harry Starke series. The plot is just a bit different. The case needs the skills of Harry Starke to solve. And Blair Howard writes a "mean" thriller. Another reason? The Narrator, Tom Lennon.

What did you like best about this story?

Of course, it starts as a murder. Investigating turns up several suspected scenerios. The investigations by the main character and supporting cast keep you hooked.

Have you listened to any of Tom Lennon’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, I have and this audio book continues with the same high quality. Good pacing, listenable. Sean Connery IS James Bond. Tom Lennon IS Harry Starke.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

A Case of Murder... or Two. Is that a Rolex on your wrist?

Any additional comments?

I appreciate the opportunity to listen to and review this work!

This audiobook was provided by the narrator at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review. Thanks!

Another good Harry Starke

Here we go again. Same location, same cast of characters (even some of the the bad guys have ties to an earlier book), same narrator (he is Harry to me).

The plot delves into some really nasty criminal activity preying on young girls yet somehow manages to give a respectful laugh or two. Never belittles the crime itself. That's the Harry we all know and love, right? Eye on the ball, gun on the hip, and one liner always on the lips. Howard manages to write dead serious dialogue about some very dark topics that isn't depressing.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it and these books are definitely not broke. The formula works - Count me in for the next one as well. Same time, same place, same station.

Another Awesome Story!

Blair Howard and Tom Lennon are both very talented. I love how each book is a standalone, yet is consistent in details. The twists and turns are wonderful. In this particular book I really thought the narrator did a fantastic job conveying the grief over Emily. My review is not a synopsis of the book, but rather my opinion of it. I do not like giving away spoilers in my reviews. I was voluntarily provided with this review copy audiobook at no charge by the author, narrator, and/or publisher.

An outstanding edge-of-your-seat read

Gone (Harry Starke, #5), my twenty-third read from author Blair Howard. Well-written and enjoyable, edge of your seat detective fiction. So far each book in the series has been batter than its predecessor. Narrator Tom Lennon's excellent narration, as always, adds to the enjoyment of the book. I look forward to Gone (Family Matters #6). (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

My favorite one so far

Mr Howard is now added to my favorite author list. This one was a great read! The story was great with a lot of twists. It had a surprise ending which was great. Most of all I love Harry's team. Great characters. A definite thumbs up.

Choose your school wisely

Police Chief Johnston, Harry's former boss, has no jurisdiction on Signal Mountain so when his daughter Emily goes missing he asks Harry to look into it. After all, Harry is the best and as he reminds us, he can do things the police cannot. The trail leads Harry into autoerotica, an exclusive lesbian escort service website and several missing person related to Emily's exclusive school. How can sweet little Emily, as Harry remembers her when she was a child stopping by his desk at police headquarters, possibly be involved in this? Mr. Howard deals with this subject matter well. Both Kate Gazzara and Harry's new girlfriend Amanda, a news anchor, are involved in this case. I thoroughly enjoy Blair Howard's books. They are not high literature nor are they heavy on the psychology of the murder. They are good mysteries with a touch of humor and great characters. I see Harry developing as the series goes on. I look forward to more. Tom Lennon, the voice of Harry Starke, did another wonderful job. I will hear him in my head whenever I read a Harry Starke book now.

Great series

GONE book 5 in the HARRY STARK. SERIES. The ex boss of Harry, the chief of police, wants to see him. Sounds like trouble. They had a bellicose relationship . But, curiosity wins. Chief's daughter Emily has gone missing. Emily now 22 was away at a prestigious college. How could the chief afford the 60K a year. Can't call for help up in Signal, for out of his jurisdiction.. Wants someone that will be discreet, and do the job right, which Harry does. Been a week and both Harry and the chief know the odds. What will Harry and Kate, she took vacation time, from her detective job, find out. A seedy bar, video tapes, did she leave with someone she knew, or a new friend. Another thriller packed adventure, that doesn't stop till the end. Clues mount as you try to figure out why. Great read, one doesn't want to miss this series. Given ARC audio by author for my honest opinion.

I just love how Harry's mind works!

Oh my this was a very emotional book and my heart beat so strongly for poor Chief Johnston. Harry is asked by Chief Johnston himself if he will handle this case personally. He also promised Harry that he was going to tell Lieutenant Kate Gazzara that she was taking personal time to help Harry with this case. Lots of emotions happen in this book for different members of the team. Lots of suspense also as we try to figure out not only who is behind the murder but who is running the business. Amanda and Bob also find themselves in a very dangerous situation. I really enjoyed this book as it showed so much of the humanity behind Kate, Harry and other important members of this series. I look forward to either listening or reading the next book as I can hardly wait to see what happens when Harry moves into his new home. I received a free code for this book from the publisher to listen to the book on Audible.com. This review is my own honest opinion.

Sometimes you have to go back to basics.

A missing girl, a police chief's daughter, no less. Harry is asked to find her. However, there's a lot more going on at the elite college that the young woman had attended, that just the one missing student. Harry, along with Kate, get into and out off a lot of tight jams. How the case gets solved, well, that's something the author will reveal as the plot is revealed.
