Summary

Dylan Meserve and Michaela Brand, young lovers and fellow acting students, vanish on the way home from a rehearsal. Three days later, they are found in the remote mountains of Malibu, battered and terrified. They've had a harrowing ordeal: held at gunpoint by a sadistic abductor who subjected them to a horrific regime of confinement, starvation, and assault. But doubts arise about their story and, as forensic details unfold, the abduction is exposed as a hoax. They claim emotional problems, and the court orders a psychological evaluation. Alex Delaware finds that Michaela's claims are true enough, but they don't explain her lies. Nevertheless, the case is closed, only to be reopened when Michaela is savagely murdered.

One of the best

I'm a big Kellerman fan but this one is particularly first rate. The murders and their links to the characters are baffling and the reveal is both creepy and satisfying. Alex and Milo are a great double act as always and there's even some comedy from the outcome of a sub plot (no spoilers but a concussed Doc is v funny).

Great performance

Great story, well read. Love Jeff Harding reading Kellermans words: he brings Alex Delaware to life well

The Jeff Harding Show

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Where to begin?

What was most disappointing about Jonathan Kellerman’s story?

Alex Delaware is a charmless fellow. If a reader can't engage with the main character then all is lost.

Who might you have cast as narrator instead of Jeff Harding?

Jeff Harding has his fans but I think his narration is laboured, hammy, a distraction.

What character would you cut from Gone?

I'm not a Kellerman fan, I've tried his books a few times but this was the final nail in the coffin. No more.
