Summary

Danny Baker is a national treasure with a well-documented - thanks to the recent eight-part BBC TV adaptation - and colourful life. For over a quarter of a century, he has amused and entertained audiences on both radio and television. Beginning his career at the age of 15 in a small record shop in London's West End, Danny went on to become an acclaimed music journalist and started his radio career on BBC GLR in 1989. With a unique take on life and a lot to say, Danny's latest book is full of his trademark warmth, wit and insight.

Critic reviews

"Quite simply the funniest book you'll read all year...easily as funny, as self-deprecating and as wordly-wise as The Moon's a Balloon by David Niven...it's like Tom and Jerry written by a Cockney Roddy Doyle on Prozac. But funnier." ( GQ Online on Going Off Alarming)
"Rattles along at the same delightful and dizzying pace as its predecessor.... Baker loves a tale told at his own expense and they come thick and fast. He writes like he speaks, with hyperactive garrulity and a rhetorical flourish...there is something about Baker in full flow that is affirming." ( Daily Telegraph on Going Off Alarming)

Glorious glorious Candyman

Oh I have just had the loveliest few weeks listening to all three books. It’s been like having Danny back on the radio in my drive home. Have never read or listened to a better written or performed biog. Stands up and applauds. Thank you Candyman.

Fantastic end to the trilogy

Honestly love Danny Baker even more after reading this 3rd memoir. His chapters dealing with his illness was moving as was his recollection of loosing his dad. This was a fantastic listen. Loved every second

A great story

An excellently told and hugely funny series of stories. Very well done Danny. Have not enjoyed listening to something so much ever!. Hsd to stop my car more than once, from being unable to see for crying with laughter.
You have brought back so many memories of my own youth of growing up in London (albeit a couple of years behind you).
Cheers Buddy

Wait A While.

There’s nothing wrong with this book. In fact, it’s excellent. Where it falls a little flat is that it’s just too recent. The previous two volumes are wrapped in the delicious bubble of the past and DB’s ability to bring the sights, sounds, smells and people to life. In this volume he’s competing with our own short terms memories. To get the most out of this book I would suggest waiting a few years and letting your own memories fade before supplanting them with Danny’s colorful retelling.

Laughter and tears

These true life adventures are written with so much detail and wit that you sometimes wonder if they are made up, no,all true. I didn’t want it to end.

The best is his trilogy

As funny as the first two of his autobiographies, and Danny's description of his cancer treatment is very very interesting, and shocking.
