Summary

Going Rogue is the follow-up to the hugely successful thriller, Going Dark: the book that introduced the world to Tom Novak.

Tom Novak is back. When a spate of deadly terrorist attacks hit the streets of London, Tom finds himself thrust into the middle of a fight for the survival of all he holds dear. When the attackers hit closer to home than he could ever imagine, Tom is forced to make a choice between his duty or his conscience. In doing so, he enters a series of increasingly dangerous worlds, in the darkest corners of humanity. Can Tom and his colleagues get to the bottom of a plot which threatens the very fabric of society? Will they stop the terrorists before it’s too late? When faced with the ultimate choice, which way will Tom go?

Well worth a listen

Mike Rogers does a good job of narrating as there is so many changes of voices and accents which helps to keep the book and its twists and turns flowing quite well. I enjoyed the storyline.

An excellent thriller.

From the first page to the last I was gripped. It is technically accurate and plausible, which is something not every writer can achieve. The narrator has an excellent range of voices and really brings the story to life. The author maintains the tension throughout right up to the final page. The ending alludes to a third instalment.. Bring it on!!

Difficult!

Look I loved Going Dark, couldn’t get through it quick enough ( I’ve given it a glowing review on here) so I excitedly pressed the button on Going Rouge....and so began a battle between another fast fun interesting story and narration akin to the amateur dramatic company from Hot Fuzz. I stopped the book in the first minute mid dog walk to check if I’d bought the right one and checked to confirm that indeed the narrator had been changed from book One. Novak now sounds like someone doing a poor impression of Sean Connery in Hunt for red October, Buster is a less convincing cockney than Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins and Pet......she’s gone from an interesting mix of accents, to....well what you’d imagine a pretend German phone sex worker would sound like. Despite the great story I’d never buy another of these books with the current narrator, I’d buy the actual book in a shot. So if you can get past the car crash Village Am-Dram narration it’s worth a credit as the story is great.
