Summary

The official novelization of the summer blockbuster Godzilla: King of the Monsters, the latest film in the MonsterVerseTM franchise, starring Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga, Millie Bobby Brown, with Ken Watanabe and Ziyi Zhang.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters follows the heroic efforts of the cryptozoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah. When these ancient super species, thought to be mere myths, rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance.

If you loved the movie, then try this too.

Ok, i admit to being a complete and utter Godzilla geek. I eat, breathe and sleep Godzilla. Have all the movies, comics etc. etc.
So as you may guess, I saw this movie numerous times and got this book to bridge the gap between the movie being dropped from the cinemas to it being released on DVD. Yes, I admit it seems a sad confession. However, this book does offer and extra dimension to the movie as it adds some more backstory to the movie. Shows you what the charactors feel and also some scenes that weren't in the final movie, including some new monsters too.

A fairly enjoyable book.

Not really an outstanding book but I got this as I missed the movie at the cinema and needed a monster fix..In the end I did enjoy the book but not a classsic and not something I feel compelled to tell anyone about it.

Adds depth to the story

Given that GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS is a visual spectacle, you could be forgiven for thinking that a novelisation would lack the punch and drama of the movie, but you’d be wrong. Greg Keyes does a great job of adding emotional depth and resonance to the movie’s story, which is admittedly light. There are lots of nuggets of information connecting the story to the wider Monsterverse, with scenes on Skull Island and Kong, as well as more details of the other titans we see so sparingly on the screen.

Michael Braun’s reading is solid, giving the action urgency and humanity. It’s not War and Peace, but that’s not what a Godzilla movie - or novel - is for.

Hail to the King!

watch the film first

I have to watch the film version to see what's it like but I think it would be better than the book (maybe?)

Great Book.

I absolutely love the book, and the narrator is awesome. It has some stuff in it that wasn't in the movie, and goes a bit deeper into the character's psyches which I really enjoy. It's fast, fun, and yet has a good story that's paced well. If you like this kind of fiction, or are a Godzilla fan, I highly suggest you buy it.

Everything the movie could have been.

This book expands the movie's storyline giving the reader a bigger view on what happens when the titans are released and the notes from the members of Monarch add a lot to the lore.

Extra Scenes Enhance this Thrilling Adventure

This book was one of the rate treasure fans love, a novel that tells the story of the film and expands upon it bringing new scenes and a better understanding of what happened. It fills in the gaps and answers many question poses by the film. If you are a Toho film fan and have seen Godzilla, King of the Monsters, the film is a love letter to those of us who grew up with the Godzilla films. Special touches and elements are included here that harken back to those films. The events surrounding the ORCA make more sense in the book, since the extras were cut from the film. I hope the film will have a directors cut when released on Blu -ray. A gripping, thrilling story that was enhanced by the audiobook. A must for Godzilla fans. Great narration for a great story.

cool

Liked the narrator and really enjoyed the book. Was never boring. Very vivid/thoroughly written scenes, but I'm by no means an expert in audiobooks. Haven't seen the movie but this book got me excited to watch it!

All Monsters Attack

The King is here. Godzilla's presence in the Monsterverse has changed the world and this novel expands upon the film and adds more detail that a film is not able to go into. With added scenes of various characters not seen in the film, including one of Kong, this is a good adaptation and the narration by Michael Braun helps bring it to life.

Excellent adaptation!

I picked up the novelization because I hoped it would elaborate on details that sped by so quickly in the movie as well as add depth to the characters, especially Emma. It certainly did that! The action scenes were exciting and the quiet scenes full of information and emotion that the movie had to gloss over. The narrator did an amazing job as well.

Perhaps I'm a bit biased as a life-long Godzilla fan, but this novelization was just as good as the movie and even managed to add things that were either subtle or implied by the film. The reading was easy to listen to, though this is the first audio book I've ever listened to, but still, it was good imo. Some of the lines are a bit cringy, yes, but that's not the issue of the audio book folks, so it's unfair to hold it against them.
