Summary

What are we supposed to think about the coronavirus crisis? Some people think they know: ‘This is a sign of the End,’ they say. ‘It’s all predicted in the book of Revelation.’

Others disagree but are equally clear: ‘This is a call to repent. God is judging the world and through this disease he’s telling us to change.’ Some join in the chorus of blame and condemnation: ‘It’s the fault of the Chinese, the government, the World Health Organisation...’

Tom Wright examines these reactions to the virus and finds them wanting. Instead, he invites you to consider a different way of seeing and responding – a way that draws on the teachings and examples of scripture, and above all on the way of living, thinking and praying revealed to us by Jesus.

About the author: Tom Wright is research professor of New Testament and early christianity at the University of St Andrews and senior research fellow at Wycliffe Hall, Oxford. He is the author of over 70 books, including The Day the Revolution Began (2017), Paul: A Biography (2018), The New Testament in its World (with Michael F. Bird, 2019), History and Eschatology (2019) and The New Testament for Everyone (2019).

Thought Provoking Analysis From a Christian Viewpoint

The Coronavirus has opened up some difficult questions for all Christians. Some commentators have responded with answers that may well chime with our frustration and anger but leave little room for hope. Tom Wright does an excellent job in steering us through these ‘easy answers’ by reminding us of the true Christian response; a course of action that has always marked Christianity out as a force for real good in the world. The audio version is read by Tom Wright - who better to read a Tom Wright book?!

Tom Wright hits the mark

Tom Wright continues to hone in on the issues and the, mostly gently, reminds us of what it is to be Christian. Speaking to our roots and our traditions he provides a path for thinking about the Church’s role in society and how we might approach post pandemic thinking and practice.

What a wonderful book!

I was initially hesitant to read this book because of the title, in case it spoke of the pandemic as God's watchful judgement.
Thankfully for me, it was written with humility, grace and love, and based in scripture.

Wow. Clarity and insight.

Easy to listen to and to understand. Why didn't I see that before? God's heart is revealed, his loving and generous desire to involve us in helping those in need.
