Summary

The author of the Sunday Times best-selling Outlander series returns with a brand new novel in the epic tale.

The past may seem the safest place to be...but it is the most dangerous time to be alive....

Jamie Fraser and Claire Randall were torn apart by the Jacobite Rising in 1743, and it took them 20 years to find each other again. Now the American Revolution threatens to do the same.

It is 1779 and Claire and Jamie are at last reunited with their daughter, Brianna, her husband Roger and their children on Fraser's Ridge. Having the family together is a dream the Frasers had thought impossible.

Yet even in the North Carolina backcountry, the effects of war are being felt. Tensions in the Colonies are great and local feelings run hot enough to boil Hell's tea-kettle. Jamie knows loyalties among his tenants are split and it won't be long until the war is on his doorstep.

Brianna and Roger have their own worry: that the dangers that provoked their escape from the 20th century might catch up to them. Sometimes they question whether risking the perils of the 1700s - among them disease, starvation and an impending war - was indeed the safer choice for their family.

Not so far away, young William Ransom is still coming to terms with the discovery of his true father's identity - and thus his own - and Lord John Grey has reconciliations to make, and dangers to meet...on his son's behalf and his own. Meanwhile, the Revolutionary War creeps ever closer to Fraser's Ridge. And with the family finally together, Jamie and Claire have more at stake than ever before.

Disappointed

Despite numerous pages the storyline was weak and I was left disappointed. Obviously another tomb in the pipeline and I look forward to developments.

Extraordinary!

These stories are an incredible blend of; intriguingly moreish characters, an exploration of the depths of love, an element of fantasy and sci-fi time travel, an in depth love and knowledge of nature and botany, all set against a backdrop of genuine, fascinating and chilling historical events that span the oceans.

Another gripping, evocative Outlander novel

Wonderfully narrated as ever.
Another convoluted adventure to draw us into the ongoing lives of such a crowd of characters that come to life in breathtaking detail and raw emotion.
Excellent.

Top notch - book AND narrator

Was so looking forward to this after so long, and it did not disappoint in the slightest. Incredibly well written, and a joy to get so many hours for one credit. How long will we have to wait for the next one? Looking forward to season six on the telly, and season 10 in the books! I love spending time with the Fraser clan, and the developing tales of the other side of the family are gripping to say the least. Well done Diana.

Loved it - if you're into detail, which I am, you will love it too

Loved the story and of course, as always, the narration by Davina Porter is so good!
Some people say they don't like the minutae and detail in Diana Gabaldon's stories but I find them perfect for a lovely, long audiobook. I prefer to listen to (as opposed to reading) all of these Outlander books. I want to know what they are and wore and what they used for medicine back in the late 1700's and if you don't want to know that, these aren't the book for you!
Can't wait for the next one... but will :)

Brilliant as always

Excellent story, love how all the characters stories are being intertwined. Can't wait to see how it's all wrapped up in the final book.
