Good starter to an intriguing story
The Good:
The writer's prose is solid and the book flows well. Its a medium pace throughout with no overly boring bits. The tradition of the Fae is that they are mischievous and their motives are hard to decipher until it is too late. Ulterior motives were a constant theme in the book that kept things interesting; everyone the lead character meets seems to have an angle to play and seeks to manipulate her.
This is the first time the Seelie and Unseelie Fae courts have been explained to me which is a marginal knowledge benefit.
The Bad:
There are a couple of logical inconsistencies around Avalon and its nature but these did not jar the story too much for me. Its more of a teen book but the writing is good enough for this to be forgiven. One of these days I'll read a fantasy story without glaring love interests or over-fascination with the body beautiful. This story has these but isn't too lurid.
I didn't like that she seemed rather helpless throughout - too much of a damsel in distress. I would have liked to read a female character that has a bit more self sufficiency. The manipulators would have to up their game and that would be a more interesting story to tell.
The Narrator:
Speaks very slowly and clearly, too slowly for me so I sped it up, other than that it was fine.
Other Comments:
Single variable calculus is not very advanced at 16 but at say 10 years old it would be impressive.
Summary:
I was split between giving this book 3 or 4 stars. I'd certainly say it was appropriate for teens because the writing quality is good enough for it to be educational and the story of benefit for teens. The lead character and story needs to be stronger for 4 stars. Jenna Black has only one story on Audible and I think there should be more based on the quality of writing in this book.

Disappointing
If you want to read about the magic realm and the fey this is not for you. If you want to read about the minutiae of a self entitled American teenager then it’s right up your street.

I hope there is a follow up book because I listened to this whole book in two days and really enjoyed it
