Summary

From the bestselling authors of The Good Widow comes a chilling novel of psychological suspense that will make you think twice about what your best friend may be hiding…

For estranged friends Ashley, Natalie, and Lauren, it’s time to heal the old wounds between them. Where better to repair those severed ties than on a girls’ getaway to the beautiful paradise of Tulum, Mexico? But even after they’re reunited, no one is being completely honest about the past or the secrets they’re hiding. When Ashley disappears on their girls’ night out, Natalie and Lauren have to try to piece together their hazy memories to figure out what could have happened to her, while also reconciling their feelings of guilt over their last moments together.

Was Ashley with the man she’d met only days before? Did she pack up and leave? Was she kidnapped? Or worse - could Natalie or Lauren have snapped under the weight of her own lies?

As the clock ticks, hour by hour, Natalie and Lauren’s search rushes headlong into growing suspicion and dread. Maybe their secrets run deeper and more dangerous than one of them is willing - or too afraid - to admit.

Great listening

Enjoyed this from the beginning. The characters came to life with the intricates of friendships and partnerships. Didn't expect the end. Worth a listen.

Friends? Really?

I'm not sure about this one. They seemed to spend all their time together yelling at each other over past issues which couldn't be changed, or getting angry while not telling the truth. It's very easy to regret once one of them disappears. I don't like what Ashley did, it was a girl's holiday, allegedly, but it didn't seem like it. I didn't particularly like Lauren's "problem" with Ashley, I thought it was incredibly harsh and unfair. I really enjoyed the book, but not the story, if that makes sense? Performance was really well done, the story line certainly teaches valuable lessons. Ashley didn't help her cause while supposedly trying to get them all together again, but the other 2 didn't either, in my opinion. I'm not sure what to make of Lauren's adiction, either. I was desperately sad at the end, I actually cried! My sympathy entirely with Ashley, most of the way through if I'm honest, but certainly at the end. Angry with both Lauren and Natalie for different reasons. A really sad book that tells us one thing. Life is short.

it really wasnt my kind of thing. A bit Gung-ho.

Sorry, I have liked works by the author before, but found his lead characters in this work distractingly gung-ho and more akin to the expectations of an Enid Blyton adventure for young adults. the narrator was quite good, though.

Should have stayed in...

Good idea... poor execution, the story drags on and on and on...
Characters are annoying. Ashley is a selfish bitch, Natalie a whinge, and Lauren one dimensional.
Narration is so melodramatic it's funny.
So bad... I switched off two chapters before the end as I couldn't stand any more.
Buy if you don't value your time.
