Tony Parsons - a very gifted writer!!!
Deeply moving. Very real. A book which can be read on many levels. And the problem of immigration, racism, and "home grown terrorists", the clash of religions. The lack of Security and trained Law enforcement . To the personal dilemas which we all face. "Is it better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all?

He cannot write these quick enough
Another amazing book by Tony Parsons. Colin Mace is the perfect narrator to portray Max. Lots of highs and lows in this book, but the core story of Max’s life ties it all together. Looking forward to the next one already.

Best crime series ever!!
Honestly the best series I've ever read or listened to, the main character is just everything you want to be as a man. The only slight negative point is that I found myself caring more about the personal aspects of this story rather than the plot, but as I said, hands down best series of books I've come across so far.
Superb reading by Colin Mace but that's standard for him.

Loved this!
I was not entirely comfortable with the narration at first. It seemed a little fast and emotionless. However, I adjusted to the pace and came to realise that Colin Mace actually did an excellent job here. The story is original, with well drawn characters who are easy to engage with. Also, where so much good fiction has weak, or ‘over the top’ final chapters, Parson’s final chapters in Girl on Fire are perfect. Genuinely exciting, but entirely plausible and left me wanting more. Here’s hoping for a sequel.

Detective Constable Wolf
I find the stories in this series very listenable.
However, I don’t think Parsons quite understands the rank structure of the Met Police. The type of work Wolf undertakes, unsupervised, would not be carried out by a mere DC. This rank is the same level as a PC. He wouldn’t rub shoulders with higher ranks as he does. Certainly a uniform PC or PS (sergeant) would not call him ‘Sir’.
If Wolf was a DS or DI it would be more believable.

Parsons is on Fire!
Parsons and Mace have these nailed now it seems and I'm going to head on into the next one very soon. Max Wolfe is one very tough guy and we get lots of tough action and this book tackles some very key subjects for today's society. Terror, racism, and the 'righteous' anger that manifests as a result. Just as tough for Max, and just as compelling for me reading it though, is his relationship with his young daughter Scout. Battling as all lone parents must, against the odds, to make sure that their children don't miss out due to the vacuum left in their lives by the missing 'other'.
Colin Mace instils real character into the macho side of Max and indeed most of the other multi-faceted characters that appear in the story. He not only brings the action to life but there is real magic in hearing him portray Max dealing with his daughter and the issues his estranged wife brings. This super tough, resourceful police detective becoming totally un-manned by his young child and her innocence. In one scene Scout makes a dramatic decision and somehow the matter of fact delivery and thinking made it tug on the heartstrings all the more. Parsons is very powerful with words, often making very few say an enormous amount.
If you're starting to wonder if the whole thing has gone soft from the above, never fear! This is as hard-hitting as any of those that have gone before in the series, it probably just all means a bit more due to the amount of time I have spent with these characters now.
Now, where's the next one . . .

Please Mr Parsons may I have some more!
Really hated having to put this book down. Definitely the best of the DC Wolfe series. The interweaving of professional and private emotions made for compulsive listening.

Enjoyable
I have enjoyed the series so far - but near the ending of this book did stretch credibility for me. A charcter had a grenade in each hand and took the pins out while another character within arms reach did nothing to stop them. You don't just casually pull pins out of grenades, you have to hold on firmly to the grenade and the pin and really yank them apart from each other.

Excellent
This series of books is one of my favourite. Tony Parsons puts into it all his skill of writing a human story with the added page turner quality of a great crime story. This book is heart rending and real with all the social problems that beset us.
Colin Mace is Max! His voice is perfect for this. The only downside I would say is the voices of some of his colleagues are a little too similar. But it doesn’t detract.
In conclusion, brilliant book but don’t finish it on a night of no sleep. I haven’t got over it yet!!
