Summary

Lucy Brewer would never have guessed that her best friend, Duffy McCready (of McCready’s Bait Shop & Funeral Home) has been in love with her since they were kids. Fear of rejection and his own romantic complications prevented Duffy from confessing his true feelings in high school, so he stood by and watched her wed Wayne Bowman right after high school. Wayne had always been a cheapskate, so it comes as no surprise when he suffers a fatal accident while fixing his own truck.

Even as her family and friends invade Lucy’s life and insist that the new widow is too fragile to do much beyond weeping, Lucy is ashamed to admit that life without Wayne is easier, less complicated. After all, no one knew what a relentless, soul-grinding trudge marriage to Wayne had been. Only Duffy can tell she’s hiding something.

In need of a fresh start, Lucy asks Duffy to put his cabinet-building skills to use, transforming the town's meat shop into a bake shop. As the bakery takes shape, Lucy and Duffy discover the spark that pulled them together so many years ago. Could this finally be the second chance he’s always hoped for?

Once again Molly Harper “writes characters you can’t help but fall in love with” (RT Book Reviews) in this charming and entertaining love story.

Brilliant!!

I really enjoyed this book! It was great to see Duffy get a HEA or at least the promise of one with Lucy. I adored Lucy and thought she and Duffy were perfect for each other, I adored Lucy's son Sam too. The three of them really seem like they'll make a great family unit some day! I really hope we get more with the McCready's soon!

Entertaining

This is a fun listen. Amanda Ronconi does an excellent narration. This story has a bit of bite, which makes the story a good listen. I do wish I had skipped the “Pecan” short and gone straight to this book. Fun listen.

What's with the f***ing f-bombs?

I love Molly Harper's books paired with Amanda Ronconi's narration. But there seems to be more f-bombs in this book than previous books. I'm not a prude, but I enjoy books and stories without them. I hope it does not become a regular addition in future titles.

MOLLY IS BACK!!!

I LOVED this book. It's Molly Harper at her best -not taking the easy (obvious/typical/oft-used by others) plot progressions, giving us a heroine that has common sense, and having a really satisfying group of people and backstory. I laughed, and I loved that people grew (not just the main characters) during the story.

Those who love "And One Last Thing..." will enjoy this one.

Well done, Molly!

I had a hard time liking this heroine.

I love Molly Harper and Amanda Ronconi, but I had a really hard time liking this heroine. She was just so prickly and standoffish and I thought she was overreacting to much of what she was being prickly with (part of that was because the reasons for her standing back from some people weren't given until too far in the book so it seemed like overreaction). I listened a second time and felt the same way. Not one of my favorites from Molly Harper. Still looking forward to more from her, though.

Good, but not great.

Good book, staying close to the series. I didn't love the main character Lucy. I feel she just wasn't that likeable. I love this series enough though so that didn't ruin the book for me.

great addition to the series

As a long time fan of Molly's work, this addition to the Southern Eclectic Series doesn't disappoint. The book is full of Molly's signature humor and snark. And you just can't go wrong with Amanda Ronconi's narration!

Another fun story from Lake Sackett

I'm glad Duffy has more of a back story and a love interest. I would have liked to have more Frankie, Margo and Maryann though.

Really great series

This was a really great series! I wish there was more to this book, it somewhat ended up with a bit of a cliffhanger. I guess it was probably more of a “ 0.5 “ or something, rather than an actual ending of a series or both. I really enjoyed the narrator. She did a great job with differentiating between characters and did both male and female voices well and accents were great! Definitely a new favorite of mine.
