Waking up on my twenty-sixth birthday, I had hoped to be left alone for one day, just one.
What I didn’t expect was to receive a life-changing gift from a stranger.
Or for my body to be offered up as a rite of passage for my husband’s initiation into a sick and twisted cult.
When powers I never knew existed burst from within me, my husband’s study is left in ruin, with one man dead at my feet, and me passed out tied to a desk. After the chaos, I’m whisked away to my new home.
Home to Elementra. To them.
The Vito Nexus.
When secrets are revealed, what does it mean for us?
Only Elementra knows, and she only tells me when she sees fit.
Jump into the realm of Elementra where you'll find, magic, shifters, possessive/overly protective men, bonds, secrets, and so much more! Gift from the Tree is a full-length slow-mid burn Romantasy novel and book 1 of 5 in the series, so expect a cliffhanger. It may have triggers for some as it has intense, dark scenes/flashbacks of abuse to our FMC (not from our MMC’s), violence, delicious angst, steamy situations, and gritty language. Please review content warning in the book. Intended for ages 18+.

Warning: Traumatic backstory that contains a lot of abuse.
Major problems: Our main female, Willow, just behaves like a 16 year old... she's 26, tragic backstory and then this is just ... ignored? She goes from flinching at every raised hand, to 'oh yeah, redden my rear!' in two days. 26 years of abuse, gone in two days. The tragic backstory which was such an important part, just seemed to be ignored unless needed for a random plot point. If this had been used and influenced more of her behavior, it would have made sense, instead the trauma just felt like it was there for the shock value.
Also, all the females are foot stomping and crying when they don't get their way. Why do strong females start behaving like lunatics as soon as the guys show up? No thanks. Every behavior is 'hormones'. She's strong, she survived torture with her spirit in tact! 'Hormones' shouldn't ever be an excuse for reverting to a whiney child, throwing a temper tantrum, needing to be tucked in at night.
Things I loved: The 'sister bond' giving her a best friend so she can do things that aren't just pleasing her men. The narration was actually really good. I could (mostly) keep track of who was talking and whose point of view.
Random comments: It's been almost 16 hours and I keep mixing the men up. The guys in the group feel like they're trying to just go through a WhyChoose checklist of 'shadow daddy', 'school principal dom', 'fire-wielding puppy dragon who loves her right away', and ummm... the 'mind-reading guy'? Wait, did I mix those up? Which one was the strong earth guy? Ugh.
I didn't give up mid way through the listen, but I'm definitely NOT rushing to get the rest of the series. I've already spent 16 hours of my life on this, and I don't want to spend another 84 hours on these characters that I don't really care about.
Entertaining, but shallow
