Summary

Winner of the CWA's Ian Fleming Steel Dagger for best thriller of the year 2013.

I makes things disappear. It’s what I do. This time I’m tidying up the loose ends after a casino heist gone bad. The loose ends being a million cash. But I only have 48 hours, and there’s a guy out there who wants my head in a bag. He’ll have to find me first. They don’t call me the Ghostman for nothing...

A Worthy Award Winner

If you could sum up Ghostman in three words, what would they be?

Different. Compelling. Well-written.

What did you like best about this story?

What I like best is the way the author weaves together the current plot and story-line together with another from the past. Don't let this put you off because this is done SO skilfully that it really does lend a special 'edge' to the overall story and makes the listening something special as it all unwinds. More importantly, it doesn't at all confuse the listener. You'll find both stories compelling in their own rights.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

The bank heist that takes place in a sky-scraper. Exciting and believable.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Any bank. Anywhere. Anytime

Any additional comments?

This is a novel that's just packed full of baddies! They're all up to no good and there's no room for heroes, at least in the conventional sense. It is an excellent book and a worthy award winner. Roger Hobbs is certainly a name to look out for from now on and the narrator Jake Weber did a pretty good job too.

Great listen when tired! Good book too.

The soporific intonation of Mr Weber makes this the ideal “drift off while listening” book. Which is a shame actually as the book is very good if you like your protagonist more the antihero type. Well thought out plot and interesting twists, though the level of detail is sometimes overwhelming. Especially combined with a warm room and ‘sleepy-time Weber’s’ tones.

Overall a very good read.

Great heist story

What made the experience of listening to Ghostman the most enjoyable?

I love heist stories and it was great to read one from the point of view of someone cleaning up a botched one

What did you like best about this story?

The level of detail is brilliant all the way through and, even though it feels a bit like the author is holding the readers hand through some of it by over-describing, you can't not be impressed by Hobbs' knowledge.

What does Jake Weber bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Not the best narrated book I've heard, too slow. Not bad though and was much improved at x1.25

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Pretty much

easy to listen to and interesting

I wasn't bowled over by this book but it wasn't boring and I did enjoy it. Very much on the macho side and 'hero' sustains lots of injury but never dies. Good pace. Well read.

Exceptionally read by an incredible actor.

Couldn't get enough. I found any excuse to listen to this story and wish the author was around to write more!
