Summary
The newly formed Interstellar Assault Brigade has been tested in secret, but their first official combat action will send a shockwave through the Alliance. A group of mercenaries and criminals have occupied part of Old Spascia City , the scene of some of the heaviest fighting in the Biomech War. They have heavily fortified the entire area, and beaten off numerous attempts by local forces to defeat them. With public attention focused on this impregnable fortress, the IAB arrives and assaults the position in broad daylight. It is a stunning debut that puts the brigade on the lips of every citizen.
On the opposite side of Alliance space is a deadly new threat, a massive spacecraft that is heading directly for the colonies of T'Karan. A heavily armed destroyer is diverted to intercept, and apparently lost with all hands in a matter of minutes. There is only one unit capable of performing a rescue operation in the limited time remaining. With just hours to spare, Spartan assembles the newly christened IAB for their deadliest mission yet. A journey across the stars to face this ancient vessel that dwarfs even a fully assembled warfleet. Waiting deep inside this vast derelict lies an alien intelligence, one that can be traced back to a civilisation long forgotten. What starts as a rescue operation quickly turns into a bloodbath, where every members of the unit is hunted by this new terrible enemy, which seeks no less than their utter annihilation.

A bit of a struggle
This is quite well written and i like how some of the scenes play out but i had to come away a few times as the narration did not seem to work very well. Although concise and some of the voices were done fairly accurately I felt, the speed below 1 didn't work easily and at 1 seemed very fast.
This spoilt the pacing and i couldn't have listened to this in 1 sitting. It may not affect others but I would give it 3.5 stars so making the story just almost a 4 overall. Im not sure if i would go with further narrations and maybe stick to the book for this ARC.
I requested this audio and have decided to leave my thoughts.

Mr Michael's Audiobooks are usually great, but...
I enjoy the Audiobooks by Mr. Michael, but the Narrating on this one is really lacking. Sorry, but the lack of (barely) distinctions between the characters, the lack of flow when changing between chapters, or even trying to keep up with the storyline because of the flat, barely changing, monotone sounding voice of the Narrator completely turned me off. I just couldn't continue listening to the Audiobook.
But in all honesty, I thought that the Audiobook storyline was great and I was really looking forward to listening to it. I'll try and find the ebook now because I would really love to finish the book.
This is a first for me when rating a book by Mr. Michael because I've haven't listened to, or read anything by him that I haven't enjoyed. And, as you can tell from this rating, I wasn't asked, or paid anything for my writing of it. :)
