Summary

This unlikely getaway driver never expected to help the mayor escape....

After a six-year absence, Addison Potts is back in Charleston to stir things up. And what better place to make her villainous return than her estranged cousin’s wedding? Only, the nuptials hit a snag when the bride doesn’t show, leaving Addison to play getaway driver for the jilted groom - a groom whose heartbreaking smile and deep, Southern drawl she should not be noticing....

Elijah Montgomery DuPont is the future mayor of Charleston. From his military career to city hall, every detail of his life has been meticulously planned. Until now. His only respite from life’s sudden upheaval is Addison, his new, improbable best friend. She makes him happy. She grounds him. And public disapproval be damned, he’s not willing to give her up. But with an election on the line and public pressure rising, Addison - and the cruel hand of fate - might not give him a choice.

What a wonderful surprise!

Really liked this book. Probably would have given it a solid four stars because of the silly lack of communication issues, but there was great chemistry and the characters were genuinely really good, and the heroine made me laugh loads of times so it got bumped up to 5 stars. The dirty talk was written well and didn’t make me cringe like many books do ..up until the female narrator’s squeaky squealy baby voice for one bit.. but that was over quickly fortunately and the narration was great for the rest of the book. I was totally hooked into the whole story and fully felt like I knew the characters by the end and was rooting for them.

Not as good as the Runaway book

I read this after reading Runaway from the brides point of view and unfortunately didn't enjoy it as much. like other people have commented I struggled with the female narrator during the sex scenes. it was cringeworthy at times and I actually skipped past them. Still an alright read maybe because I enjoyed the other book I was expecting more.

Need new reader

While the story is good and compelling, the female reader is annoying. The male reader does a good job, making me wish the whole book was read by him. The female reader insists on reading her character as a woman who whines or talks in a “baby” voice (thinking it’s sexy???) during the sex scenes. When she speaks for the male it’s in a stereotypical male gruff voice that just sounds stupid! She has pulled the female gender back into the “woe is me” I’m helpless century. Tessa Bailey, don’t let this female narrator pull your story down!

Contemporary southern RomCom plus salad toss

Elijah is a traditional southern gentleman who adheres to familial and societal expectations until he is left at the alter.
Addison is his getaway girl. She is back in Charleston because her grandma passed away and she inherited her home and business. She attends her cousin's wedding to stir things up but that is unnecessary since her cousin doesn't even show up. Addison feels compelled to offer the groom an escape so she pulls her car around front and offers him a ride and escape.
Addison's internal dialogue is hilarious.
I love grandparent relationships and memories. The Christmas decorations year round and dirty jokes on ornaments created fun imagery.
Elijah and Addison become friends. They enjoy each other's company and have fun together but because Elijah is in the limelight while he runs for Major; they choose to keep their friendship away from the public eye. Their friendship is so special and becomes a unmovable foundation for their ultimate relationship.
Omg the niicknames: sugar/Goose + Captain. All the heart eyes.
Read this if you are in the mood for a contemporary southern rom-com where the h tosses the H's salad. forreal - they go there and its HOT

“it’s a version of me that only comes out to play with Addison”

Puchased this story because of Joe Hempel

I purchased this story because of male narrator. I really loved his soft voice which made every story he reads that much better. I chose audiobook for this particularly for this reason. Of course, he did not disappoint me. This author and female narrator were new to me. She did a good job reading the story and I will be looking for her and this author in the future. I recommend this story if you are a romance lover.

Good Lord! Needs a new female Narrator.....

Reason I only gave performance a one star was due to the female narrator Lori Prince not Joe Hempel. The story was good and entertaining, but the female reader was annoying as hell. I almost couldn’t finish the book because of her voice. The male reader does a good job, making me wish he would’ve read the whole book himself . The female character comes across as a woman who whines and talks in a “baby” voice (umm not sexy at all) during their sex scenes. Her male voice was just horrible and sounded like he was being tortured. The sex scenes were hot, but unfortunately ruined by the female narrators voice...Advice to the author Tessa Bailey, don’t let this female narrator read any other books of yours..

this book will have you laughing until you cry!

This author never disappoints...you will laugh, you will cry, you may even say WTH...but you will never say that this story is boring!!
Addison rescues Elijah after he is left at the altar. He is a mayoral candidate and she is a ‘nobody’...definitely not part of the Charleston elite. Addison doesn’t expect anything when she opens her home to Elijah as a respite from the craziness of politics. Over the months, she becomes a safe place for him just to be himself...they’re now best friends but no one knows. See, Addison has a colorful past albeit not of her own making, and it could damage Elijah’s political career. Will the pair admit to having more than platonic feelings for each other? Will the elite pressure Elijah to dump Addison? What happens when the ex-fiancée returns? Great story with lots of humor...the press loves to admire Elijah’s butt!! Addison runs a ‘dirty’ Christmas ornament booth that she inherited from her grandmother! Love the HEA.

What an unexpected swoon worthy story

This has been recommended by a trusted source so I know it’s going to be good but it’s so much better. The narrators are new to me but I think they did an excellent job expressing the uncertainty and chemistry between Elijah & Addison. They really Tessa’s words justice especially the emotions depth that Addison felt for Elijah. I cried and laughed so hard and never wanted it to end.

Sexy and Fun

Getaway Girl was a fun, sweet, (super) sexy friends to lovers story. A fun twist on the runaway bride story where we get the POV of the groom who was left standing at the altar.

“When he’s around me, I don’t seem capable of anything but praying he can’t hear my heartbeat.”

Getaway Girl had not only a dirty talking hero (my kryptonite) but also a heroine who could hold her own in a dirty talk throw down!! Addison is sassy and snarky. I definitely wanted the best for her and rooted for her to get her HEA.

“I understand Mama now. I’m not mad at her anymore, but I’m… I want to be better than her. I don’t want to be someone’s regret.”

A light angst, really enjoyable story. I listened to some of it on audiobook and it helped make my commute enjoyable!
